This place is horrible. I stayed for one night (I had made a reservation for 5, but just had to leave) in cockroach infested room, the door would neither shut nor lock, the beach smells like Managua -- burning trash everywhere, and there was no hammock, no warm water, the phone would not work, and they somehow charged me $270.00... more

As residents of Central America, we consider this place very poor value for money. No hot water, TV not working. No hammocks. Staff unhelpful. One reason for booking was the website's glowing description of their restaurant - this was closed and no-one could tell us why. The adequate accomodation, pools and average beach don't justify the cost. more

I spent six nights at the Hotel Vistamar with my wife and one-year-old son at the end of February and beginning of March, 2008. Overall, the experience was very positive. As others have mentioned, the beach is fantastic--big, wide, sandy, and while we were there, practically deserted. A couple of smaller annoyances on the beach are the noise from four-wheelers... more

We just came back from a week at the Hotel Vistamar. The only way I can expain it is paradise. We enjoyed the ocean front bungalows, early morning walks on miles of beautiful beach, reading in our own hammocks, and cocktails by the pool. The staff were very helpful and attentive. Not many of the people speak English, but it... more

We chose this place over Montelimar as it looked like it would provide a more quiet stay. It did. The bungalows are great and we stayed in one furthest from the pool area (which I would recommend as it is not smack up against other bungalows and felt more private). You cannot beat the beachfront views, the hammocks, and the... more

We stayed at this nice bundalow-style hotel for a couple of nights in november. It is definitely the best place to stay in Pochomil, especially if you don't like the all-inclusive resorts that look the same all over the world. Nice pools, good food (although you can eat for less than half the price and much better at the Alta... more

We stayed here for 2 nights in October. It rained - but it was the rainy season of course. We were the only north americans here, so it did really seem like we were in a place were only the locals went! There was no hot water in any of the rooms. One of the days we were the only... more

We spent two weeks at Hotel Vistamar, listening to the pounding surf and watching the gorgeous Pacific sunsets from our veranda. Our daily activities were long walks on the virgin beaches, not yet developed with mega resorts. This is a small, 43 room hotel, and for someone who really wants to get a feel of native Nicaragua, then this is... more

We just returned from a visit to Nicaragua - spent 3 nights at Hotel Vistamar. For those considering Vistamar vs. Montepilar (the luxurious resort a few miles away), it is comparing apples and oranges. They are very different and appeal will depend on type of travel you are looking for. At Vistamar, the bungalows are simply furnished, very clean, attractive... more
