Stayed two nights at Portinari as I had read some good reviews of the hotel. Sadly the reviews had to be as out of date as the Hotel itself... I was later told by my Rio based travel agency that they had stopped to book this hotel as they did got a lot of complaints about it (why did they... more

We tried a cheaper hotel not far from the Portinari and were so dissapointed we decided to upgrade. The Portinari was a great place to stay, one block from the beach. The room we had was not as 'design' as we might of thought but was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was great, on the top floor. The... more

I stayed at Portinari in August 2004 and had a good impression, that's why I'd like to visit it again. Unfortunately, the hotel is more and more decadent. From the reservation procedures to the little details (towels really old!), everything reveals that the once "first design hotel in Rio" is just an overpriced 3 stars accomodation. I had reserved a... more

We stayed at the Portinari for 3 nights early november, the weather was hot and damp, the first thing you notice is that the aircon is very weak and you have to let a key card at the room switch otherwise it will turn off when you leave the room, then you will find a real oven when you return... more

I was a little disappointed by this hotel at the end of a two week trip around Brazil. The rooms are a reasonable size and clean but abit basic. Some of the finer detailing was poor due to a less than acceptable standard of workmanship. We had a room on the 12th floor but could still hear the traffic noise... more

Excellent Hotel. Rooms and bathrooms very nicely appointed and new. Excellent breakfast and very helpful english speaking reception staff. Some people have commented that it has a poor location but we really liked the neighbourhood as we felt it was safer than other parts of Copacabana which were more touristy and therefore more expensive and more dangerous. It's only 50m... more

The Portinari is a good boutique hotel located in Copabana, one block from the beach, and really close to Ipanema (approximately 4 blocks). We had a room at the seventh floor. The room wasn’t really big, but was enough for what we were looking for. It has a really cozy and warm bed; I loved the sheets and the pillows.... more

Finding a good hotel in Rio can be challenging. We want a good location and modern amenities at a reasonable price. We have stayed at Hotel Debret in Copacabana, the Rio Flat Service in Leblon and Hotel Paysandu in Flamengo before. There are always of course, the Meridien, Sofitel, Marriott, Cesar Park and Copacabana Palace. Many high end hotels are... more

I stayed three nights at the Portinari, two different times so two different rooms. The rooms are functional if a bit small, bathrooms are fine. Each floor has a different "design" (see the actual name of the hotel). The views are ok - if you bend your head you can see the ocean - but it is literally only a... more
