Centrally located in Jaipur, the Pink City of India, the palace was built in the 19th century by General Amar Singh Ji, the then Thakur of Kanota. Designed in a fanciful version of The Anglo-Indian style popular in the Victorian Era, the palace now serves as a hotel. The Palace has all the modern amenities and a place where one can enjoy traditional Rajput Hospitality. Decorated with Rajput Flourishing, Rajasthani Furnishing and Traditional Jaipur painted wall decor in a typically bold colour palette; Narain Niwas was built in the 1928 by General Amar Singh, Thakur of Kanota, and Commander of the Jaipur State Force. more » « less

We wanted to experience something different here and were prepared for shabby grandure but not prepared for grubby rooms and cockroach in the bathroom. We paid more for this hotel than the 5 star ITC Mughal in Agra. There was no complementary water in the room nor tea making facilties and we had to wait 45 minutes to get a... more

Truly enchanting, and romantic.. I must say I'm a little suprised to see some of the reviews on here of this particular hotel. Yes, it's 'faded grandeur' all the way, but isn't that what's so charming? My friend and I were visiting Jaipur on business in the month of March 2008, we picked the hotel based on reviews in a... more

Our travle agent moved us from another hotel to this shabby place. Our advise to all readers is: do not go here! The rooms does not in any way corrspond to their webside photos. They are unclean, and awfully cold in wintertime. The food in the indoor restaurant is very bad: choose Copper Chimney in town instead! Service overall in... more

Bedroom only OK but lovely soap, the best toiletries we came across anywhere in India. The public rooms are amazing, full of family portraits, incongruous Victorian furniture from when it was a family home, and great interior decor. The food is excellent too. The electrics do look primitive, but they work, and what do people expect in a heritage hotel?... more

Stayed here for two nights and the only positive thing I can say about the hotel was that we stayed out from early morning to late at night just to spend as little time as possible there. Some hotels are so lovely that you are tempted to stay in rather than go out sightseeing - but this is not the... more

I have to say I panicked after reading the last few reviews and thought about cancelling. However, I'm so glad I did not. I don't recognise the reviews and note that the photos of the hotel are actually of another one. We had a lovely suite which had original features and furniture but with all the mod cons you would... more

Our experience matches some of the other reviews posted. We stayed four nights. The hotel is rundown, food is bad, staff is incompetent and unhelpful. Rooms are dark, not maintiained and not cleaned properly on a daily basis. The whole place is shabby. No one cares, especially the management. Also, the location is not great. For $100 per nite, there... more

Travelling with my children, we stayed here 3 nights and I was ready to move out the first evening. The building and the grounds are quite nice and this seems to be an oasis in the bustling city, although after a closer look everything about the hotel was shabby. Our room was large and over furnished and seemed to fit... more

Our stay was brief and thankfully so. This is a pretentious property and the management tries to let its history do their work for them. This has potential to be a fine hotel but they do not look after it and there is no visible excuse for that. The grounds are in terrible shape in places and the entrance to... more

We stayed 2 nights at this beautiful old hotel. The entrance to the hotel and grounds are beautiful, with peacocks wandering round. The swimming pool seemed clean enough and the children enjoyed it. The rooms whilst large and clean, were dark with hardly any natural light. The breakfast was disappointing. We ate at the hotel garden restaurant on both nights... more
