When we were unable to arrive at the hotel on time due to a demonstration which closed the road, they were so helpful. Put us in touch with driver who would take us when safe. Advised us about what to do in Siliguri. They sent a safe and experienced driver. When we arrived...3 of us, at past 10pm at night,... more

The rooms are very out dated, pillows are old and lumpy, and the bed sheets, while they appear to be clean, are stained and gross. We stayed for 2 nights and the room was never cleaned or serviced, even though we put out the 'service room' sign. We were in the basement, so it was rather dark and musty, and... more

"Why not come for Christmas this year to the Windamere in the Himalayas? It may be an experience of a lifetime. 'Windamere is nestled on Observatory Hill in beautiful Darjeeling, long known as a place of mystery and romance, where the Gods reside." These were the words on the poster for the Christmas and New Year's entertainment at the Windamere... more

I've actually been lucky enough to have stayed here many times prior to leading treks either to the Singalila Ridge or on to Sikkim and Kanchenjunga base camp. Ok, it may have it's quirks, but isn't that part of the experience. I love the place and all that goes with it. more

A delightful experience; the cosy coal fire and hot water bottles were the final thoughtful touch. The staff are a friendly, helpful team representing many people of the Himalayan region (Gurkhas, Tibetans, Lepchas, Bhotias etc.) We were there in the Monsoon, but when the mist lifted one day, we were rewarded with a stunning view of Kanchenjunga and associated peaks.... more

We stayed in a suite, which was roomy, comfortable and quaint. We had a sitting area, large bedroom, dressing room and bathroom. It was very clean and comfy, with plenty of natural light and coal fireplaces in both the sitting room and bedroom as well as electric heaters. Even when the outside temperature dropped at night, the rooms were cosy... more

Our stay met with unusually inclement weather which the management was completely unable (or unwilling) to deal with.Dressing for dinner had a different meaning -- thick coats and woolly hats !! Guests were not permitted to sit close to the inadequate coal fire , that was reserved for senior staff !! Meals were of below average quality and water was... more

On Observatory Hill the views of the Himalayas are stunning. As for the hotel, it is like a time warp as everything from the light switches to the fireplaces/ hot water bottles in the beds is as it obviously was in the 1930s. The food is either very English and also Raj curries or both if you can eat it... more

The Windamere was a beautiful experience. We visited the not so little town of Darjeeling during Christmas last year and were surprised to find not a hotel, but a home. 1. The food, prepared under the guidance of the Chief Chef Beem Prasad, is outstanding. Each setting provides both Indian and Western dishes. And the menus are typed! The teas... more
