We also found th staff lacking, but perhaps it is a function of the terrible hours they work and the government's part management. The waitresses didn't crack a smile and the front desk needs a customer service lesson. The gents behind the desk are bossy and officious a bit too "Franco" for me. My husband would hide behind a newspaper... more

On the plus side, this hotel had friendly reception and bar staff and there was convenient nearby free parking. The breakfast was of reasonable quality although the rolls were rather dry and presumably not fresh. The public rooms were nicely decorated and the hotel had a pleasant garden situted just under the historic city walls. There was a bar terrace... more

My 8 year-old and I stayed at this Parador one night. It is nicely situated within the walled city of Avila (pronounced abeela). We were able to check-in early and had their breakfast twice and ate dinner there once. The city itself is a can't miss....especially with kids. One of my daughters highlights of the whole spain trip was walking... more

Very 1st Parador experience for travelling family of 4 who toured Spain for almost 2 weeks with clear skies and comfortable winter temperatures. Avila as a town is worth the visit. Cursory view of competition gives the impression that the Parador is a great choice. Reading the other reviews I think it's a matter of what else are the options.... more

Parador number 3 and a little disappointing. It's in an old palace just inside the Avila walls, but most of the rooms are in a new wing and quite small for a Parador. It is well signposted and easy to find, but the free parking was already full when we got there and we had to pay 13Euros a night... more

This hotel is converetd monastery with a new addition tagged on the back. It is just inside one of the main gates to the old town and easy to find. The hotel parking is very limited and street parking may be diffcult. We were lucky to find a suitable place in view from our bedroom window. The old town is... more

The Paradores are government run Spanish B&B/Hotels which are generally historic buildings and/or located on historic sites. Avila is WNW of Madrid between Gredos and Segovia and it's parador is a 16th Century palace built over the former Piedras Avila palace and backing onto the city walls which are the highlight of a trip to Avila. Sounds great......but it's actually... more

This property has the makings of a stunning hotel unfortunately spoilt by firstly the staff and secondly the need for some refurbishment. Good points are a great location inside the amazing city walls and pleasant, spacious rooms. Bad points are the staff who, almost universally, exhibit an indifference bordering on rudeness. This may be because, being state owned, they are... more

Very good location just inside the walls of Avila and easy to find. Parking restricted and cannot be booked in advance. Reception surly and hotel very tired with threadbare carpets and unwelcoming on a very cold and wet day. Several flights of steps up to reception desk and only access for disabled we could see was from garage. Similarly several... more

We stayed in this Parador for one night, during a 22-day trip around Spain. It is a comfortable hotel, very nice atmosphere. Staff is ok if you speak Spanish, but my wife tried to talk to them in English and got a rude answer. Breakfast was below average considering the price we paid, but not totally hopeless. Location is fine.... more
