We spent two fantastic days in this beautiful game reserve - more specifically in the lodge called "Safari Lodge". On four game drives, our ranger, Kulani, showed us more animals than we had ever imagined to be able to see in such a short time. So, there was hardly enough time to enjoy all the luxury of the safari huts... more

My wife and I recently stayed at the Amakhala's Reed Valley Bush Lodge and what a fab experience we had. From the moment we arrived we were very well looked after and all the staff went out of their way to make our stay there memorable. I had special dietary needs and Benjamin the chef was more than happy to... more

Of note Amakhala is owned by five different families so it has five diffent lodges- we stayed at Reed Valley and were in their new accomodation called Bush Lodge which only opened in December 2007. we had no interaction with the other lodges so i can't comment... more

We have just returned from spending 3 night here, August 2007. This has been our first trip to Africa, or on a safari. The reserve is about 1 hours drive from Port Elizabeth, and close to the more well known, and more expensive, Shamwari reserve. The accomodation is in traditional style huts, which have mod cons. There is under floor... more

Leeuwenbosch It was the last part of our holiday when we arrived at Amakhala Game Reserve – Leeuwenbosch so we were excited to see the animals. We decided on this Game reserve because it was in a malaria free zone and it had a children's program included however this was not the case with the later. As for the reserve... more

Approx. 80km from Port Elizabeth. Small (by African standards) Game Reserve. Only about 6,500 hectares. We stayed in the Safari Lodge, one of 6 privately owned lodges at Amakhala. We arrived at 1pm and were served lunch before being brought to our secluded room. It was a tent, and it was great! A big double bed with insect net over... more
