We stayed here on the very last night of our trip to South Africa as we dropped off our rental car in Stellenbosch and the next morning took a taxi at 4am (!!) for the short drive to CapeTown airport. The hotel is extremely average with devent sized and clean but tired rooms. On the up side the location is... more

This is the oldest existing inn in South Africa--good news and bad news. While I orginally booked our family in The Wild Mushroom Guest House, it is now managed by D'ouwe Werf ("The Old Yard"). Our rooms at The Wild Mushroom were three stories up and we had a lot of luggage...so my husband asked if there were more convenient... more

I actually stayed at the Wild Mushroom guest house next door which has now been taken over be d'Ouwe Werf - so the rooms are different (self catering studio - but we still got breakfast), I'm not sure if they're keeping them separate I assume it will properly become part of d'Ouwe Werf soon. If you have the choice though... more

Looking at the pics on the internet decided to book for 2 nights in a luxury room. Not happy with the ground floor room on arrival but told it was the only one available, even though others on the ground appeared to be left empty overnight. It was very dark, located between the ladies and gents toilets, and had no... more

De Oude Werf is the oldest Inn is South Africa and a truly charming place. It's located right in the centre of Stellenbosch, so you can enjoy the great wines in the surrounding restaurants without having to worry about driving. The rooms are maybe not as big as the ones of the hotels on the wineries but then again the... more

Travelling on an organised wine tour, we stayed at this hotel, the oldest in South Africa. The name means the old yard. The rooms in the original part of the hotel are furnished in the old Cape Dutch style, and can be a little dark. However, the newer rooms are spacious and quiet. The position is in the town centre,... more

Stayed here 2 nights Jan 31/Feb 1 , partly because of the good reviews on here and its inclusion in Portfolio. It was one of the most expensive hotels on our tour (1600 Rand per night) and the most underwhelming too. It just had no comfort , style ,hospitality or atmosphere. What's the big deal about the valet parking? What... more

This hotel has a superb setting right in the heart of Stellenbosch but with the advantage of valet parking! The courtyard area and the plunge pool was a tranquil hideaway. Our room was large, comfortable and clean and although we overlooked the main street we were not disturbed. This was our last stop on a 3 week trip before catching... more

Oldest inn in SA - but with modern touches except no minibar and could not get a drinl about 2230 unless you raided the free sherry in the lounge ! Room amazing and spacious, great bathroom and walk in dressing room. Good for exploring the town. Excellent breakfasts. Helpful valet parking attendants. Really enjoyed our couple of days there, and... more

We stayed two nights at the d'Ouwe Werf Country Inn in Stellenbosch. It is situated in an excellent location on the right side of town. We got a beatiful suite with four poster bed and separate lounge area. The rate was excellent for the quality of the room. Breakfast was fine. There is free secure underground parking. I would also... more
