4* hotel with reasonable facilities; decor from the 1920s but gives it charm. Buffet breakfast; worst scrambled egg we have ever had. Fresh towels twice a day, and most staff speak reasonable English. Security box on request. Good central location within walking distance to Playa de Mayo (main square). We opted for a room at the back of the hotel... more

don't expect much of a view. We had a room facing one of the "light shafts" so even though we were on the 7th floor we had to lean out the window to see the sky. I suppose room on top floors are a different story. And facing the street is probably nice. Anyways the room was very clean as... more

Pros: all cab drivers (except one!) knew the location, metro was right outside, nice lobby, friendly staff, not expensive, close (no more than 15 minutes on foot, cab, or train) to several attractions, including Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada, Cafe Tortoni, Confiteria La Ideal, the Obelisk, bank across the street, a few cafes and restaurants nearby, easy to get cabs... more

A group of us stayed in this hotel in Feb 08. The hotel looks nice from the outside and has a nice lobby but there's where it all ends. The lifts have a mind of their own. The rooms are all different; some smelly, some difficult to live in and most old and run down. The rooms have normal keys... more

Very depressing, old, moldy, tacky hotel. There rooms quiet honestly were disgusting with dirt on the walls and old curtains and bed spread. The tv was something out of the 1970's. The staff was very unhelpful- would not go out of there way at all to help you get somewhere or find something. Check out was 10 am on the... more

I went to South America (Argentina and Uruguay) for Thanksgiving week 2005 where it is essentially the same weather as late May in the southern tier of the U.S. and, yes, the weather was great. I had read about the Castelar in several guide books and they have a web site. It sounded good and the price which included the... more

If you want to be in the traditional centre of BA, this is a good place. The subte is close and you can walk to plaza de Mayo and the big shopping streets. They have a Spa you can enjoy, allthough we did not try it. It is clean, friendly hotel and it has a traditional feel to it. more

I went to Buenos Aires for 10 nights stay. Booked with assistance of Giselle Sosa of their own reservation department. No problems whatsoever. Pleasant communication and information, no misunderstandings, very good english. However in the beginning for the first night i got a room like some people mentioned here, it was changed directly the second morning with kind assistance of... more

If you are loooking for the Hilton, this is not it. Wooden floors, older furniture, thick oak doors leading into narrow hallways, this hotel is definitely form a different era. But, it is well placed; the subway entrance is right outside the front door, several plazas are in walking distance, and the staff is very friendly. My room was quiet,... more

We stayed at the Hotel Castelar for 1 night in mid February and really enjoyed it. I was suprised at the negative reviews written about this hotel as our experience was great. The hotel is old (built in the 1920's) however I believe it was well maintained. Check-in process was a bit slow, however adequate. We had room 304 which... more
