Staying in Marktee Castle was the most unforgettable experience ever. The Castle itself is really amazing and the staff really nice. Receptionists were the most helpful and we could ask them never ending questions and always be answered. We also decided to treat ourselves and we had a dinner there. Homemade brownie was delicious and stuffed chicken was exquisite. And... more

I read the reviews here and was a bit hesitant, but I am glad I booked. This place certainly has some issues--the chair in my room belonged in the garbage and the cobwebs on the artificial flower arrangement should have been removed, but in the end, this place was a great find and an incredible bargain. The rest of the... more

When planning a trip to Ireland for my husband, my parents and I, I decided to explore the possibility of staying in a castle - it is a dream my mother and I have shared since we began visiting Europe 10 years ago. Given the current exchange rates, we were also trying not to go bankrupt. When I found Markree... more

After reading the reviews posted I had a good idea what to expect. If your expecting a modern hotel, this is not for you. If you understand that this is a 300 year old castle that is really a true castle, than you will love it like we did. We had the room at the top of the tower, having... more

I was worried when I read the previous posts on Markree Castle. I have been disappointed by castle hotels in the past. However, I was so amazed by the architecture and the massive fireplaces that I fell in love with the place. Sure it is careworn, but that is what makes it so fantastic. I loved the room and it... more

My partner and I have just returned from an overnight stay at Markree Castle. We had seen this advertised on the internet and phoned to make a booking whilst travelling around Ireland. The castle looked stunning on the website and we weren't disappointed as we approached along the main drive to the castle - it really is beautiful from the... more

First of all if you are looking for 5* castle accommodation this is not the place for you. The first time I visited (Nov 2006 I think) my first thought was " if only they had a couple of million to spend on the place it would really be fabulous". However after a few hours this thought changed to "I'm... more

We stayed in Markree Castle in March 2008. The castle itself is a real castle and it feels like a novelty staying there. It is a beautiful and amazing building though it is a bit shabby inside in parts- the room we stayed in was quite dated. However, we found our room to be very clean and comfortable nonetheless. The... more

Markree Castle was really disappointing. On the positive side the food was beautiful, both dinner and breakfast (we were surprised at this!) the room was an awful lime green colour and in need of redecoration or at least new bed covers but again it was clean, there was no hot water in the shower. The rest of the hotel was... more
