We were looking forward to our stay at the Colonial Terrace, unfortunately that stopped the moment we opened our room door. The room was small, tired and dirty. Forget trying to unpack two suitcases, there isn't enough floor space. Our chair (squeezed in) had stains on it, scratched chest of drawers, rusty window frame - I could go on. The... more

Our guestrooms are in the process of being upgraded and will be in top shape shortly. The $100 early departure fee is in place to protect our small inn financially, and is refunded to the departing guest if we are able to re-sell the room for the nights they originally reserved.

This hotel was a nice surprise to us. We had read the reviews and knew that it was a fairly good walk into town, so we were prepared for this. I had seen the pictures on line and kind of expected a little motel kind of place. I did not expect the lovely appointed room that we received! It was... more

My wife and I saw that this inn got good reviews here and the property looked nice from the photos. But man, we had a really rough night at this place. The room was the size of a postage stamp, and was and full of dust. So full of dust that for some time I literally could not stop sneezing.... more

Never accept room #6. This $250/ night room is located next door to the maid service/employee quarters where loud chatter, banging doors, and service carts wake you up at 8 am. Don't bother to complain at the reception desk because every hotel employee either quickly dismisses your complaints or feigns surprise that room #6 has noise issues. This conduct is... more

The door to the housekeeping department will be relocated so as not to disturb any of our future guests. The above guests have been contacted and a reimbursement has been given as a gesture of goodwill. Be certain that this is not the way our staff reacts to guests requests on a regular basis. We did experience a service breakdown...

I booked one night at Colonial Inn as a surprise for my husband for a romantic anniversary celebration. I thought I would splurge on one of their suites, (San Antonio Suite #26) at almost $300/night (low season). I guess my expectations were too high. The ocean view is really a partial view over a rooftop and through the trees. The... more

The hotel is a very nice old, east coast style hotel with 7 buildings on the property. We were in Room 13, that had filtered views of the ocean - not ocean view. We saw other rooms that were much nicer with better views. Carpets had several stains, but otherwise clean in every other way. Very funky and somewhat overpriced... more

Hubbie and I stayed at the Colonial Terrace in late January while driving up to the wine country. From the outside this inn couldn't be more charming. The grounds are landscaped beautifully (we could even tell this in January!) with all kinds of flowers, herbs and even several citrus trees. The lobby area is really nice and there are some... more

We got one of the last rooms in Carmel on a late summer weekend. We were very pleasantly surprised. The location is excellent, only 30 seconds walk away from the beach and less than 10 minutes stroll into the centre of town. Staff were very pleasant The exterior appearance is very welcoming. We had been warned that room 6 was... more

Carmel can be described as a place where men loiter outside shops while women flash their credit cards - a lot! Actually, it is a charming if a little clinical town with one of the best beaches in the world. We took in two sunsets looking at the ocean - one from near town and one from out on the... more

The Inn is very pretty. It is actually a collection of buildings with lovely landscaped common areas. Our room (11R) was small but nicely decorated. The Inn is just a block from the beach and offers free beach chairs and towels. If you want to hear & see the ocean, this is the place to stay. If you want to... more
