We stayed there for 2 nights. It was nice and unque but way overpriced. It is in a good location which is a plus but you pay for it. The hosts were great, didn't eat breakfast there but everything was clean and nice. more

The breakfast was seriously substandard. I’ve made much better breakfasts, for more people, over a Coleman stove and a cast-iron Dutch oven while camping. NO, I repeat NO housekeeping during our two night stay. We are a couple. We are in love. We are staying at a B&B. We have needs. We need fresh sheets, and fresh towels. NO SUCH... more
After reading reviews I thought I had a good idea of what to expect, I am not one for excessive service so, I thought it would be fine. & SLO doesn't have many options so we thought we would give this place a try. Decor-fun and tasteful. We enjoyed the asthetic & fun atmosphere. But the positive feelings end there.... more
Stayed one night at the Sanitarium on our way up the coast a couple days after our wedding and really enjoyed it. The property is truly unique, our room was awesome, and the breakfast the next day was good. I agree that their weekend rate is steep, but the weekday rate is competitive. The location is great, six blocks from... more
Thought it would be a good place for a getaway w/ my significant other. Think otherwise now. Though the place has a cool flavor to it, bohemian in nature, "W" hotel like music playing, its got way too many cons. The same breakfast served everyday for 4 days in a row, how many eggs and nutella rolls can you eat... more
I read all the reviews first and thought I knew what to expect. Bottom line: You're on your own at this place. The owner barely showed us our room and then went back to entertaining her friends. She was having an open studio in the house and people were wandering around the property, including into our room with our luggage.... more
My husband surprised me on our anniversary with a quick getaway to the sanitarium and it was incredible. We had just visited a winery, so the first thing we did was share a glass of wine in the amazing tub in our room. The place is so relaxing. Our hostess Nicky took great care of us and even referred us... more
We stayed at the Sanitarium B & B for 3 nights in April 2007. I had looked at countless B & B websites in that area, looking for one that was really beautiful. I'm surprised how many B & B's I consider ugly. They may be comfy, but they're too fussy or have terrible colors. This one really caught my... more
•Do not busy yourself in the kitchen, mid-day when expecting check-ins, while listening to Fergie at high volume. •Do not greet your guests with "You're really early” … even if they are. •Do not assume your guests already know your name and, therefore, never bother to introduce yourself. •Do not leave your guests wondering whether there is or is not... more
Don't believe me? Read on... I found this bed and breakfast on Yelp when I was looking for accommodations in SLO. I took my girlfriend there for the weekend with the goal of visiting Hearst Castle. The Sanitarium made the visit special in a way we'll never forget. The Sanitarium is located about a 10 minute walk from downtown San... more
