Mont Rochelle is in a beautiful location just outside Franschhoek, with fabulous views over the valley. The food for breakfast was great, and we had dinner in both The Country Kitchen and Mange Tout, both of which we thought were excellent. The Mont Rochelle wine was great - in particular the Syrah. The staff were really friendly and helpful, even... more

My husband and I visited Franshoek and spent a short stay at the fabulous Mont Rochelle hotel. We cannot fault this hotel for anything! Everything from the warm welcome to taking care of every last detail of our stay was top class!! We had dinner at the Mange Tout restaurant and this too was excellent. The service, rooms, food, furnishings... more

We stayed here for 2 nights......2 nights too long! The hotel itself is in a fabulous location and by an large is a very nice building. The staff however and the general management of the hotel leaves a great deal to be desired. If you manage to find the hotel in the first place it's a miracle, there's no signage... more

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon tour of SA. It is such a beautiful part of the world - pity about the hotel. Pool was beyond freezing and difficult to use even though it was Summer. Why can't it be heated? We sat at the pool for ages before someone came to take an order. Breakfast order was... more

We stayed here for three days as part of our honeymoon. The hotel was quite new and all the fittings/furnishings were smart and clean. However, the staff were not overly friendly, I think the best description would be 'professional'. The hotel (and the staff) had a somewhat cold feel to it. It is set on a wine estate but better... more

We stayed here for 3 nights having already visited Franschoek in February. The setting is beautiful amongst vineyards slightly out of the village and the hotel which is white and thatched is delightful. We were in the newly built section constructed after the fire in February and had the most beautiful room with high ceilings looking onto thatch and unstained... more

I booked 2 nights at the end of our holiday having read the reviews on TripAdvisor. The Mont Rochelle certainly has the most spectacular setting - truly beautiful. However, there are literally hundreds of beautiful B&Bs and small hotels in Franschhoek and the Mont Rochelle unfortunately does not live up to expectation. The staff on the whole were friendly, but... more

Stayed there in a suite, hotel only reopened in October following a fire last winter. Definitely not ready for prime time. In general, it seems to target a strictly geriatric set of travelers. Very expensive. No wireless internet, formal atmosphere EVERYWHERE. An ancient piano player in the VERY FORMAL restaurant where the food was bad. Sent back my dinner twice,... more

We stayed at the newly named Mont Rochelle Hotel (formally La Couronne, reopened officially on 1 October 2006) in Franschhoek for the last four nights of our fantastic South African honeymoon. As soon as we arrived, our luggage was whisked off and we received a very warm welcome from the duty manager and reception staff before being invited to the... more

What a fabulous hotel in a fabulous location. The room was lovely, well furnished and decorated. The food in the restaurant was wonderful and the wine even better! We stayed here on the night of our Silver Wedding anniversary. When we returned to our room after dinner there were rose petals strewn around and floating candles around the bath. Its... more
