“Perfect hotel - a must”

This hotel is gorgeous! Definitely the best pick in town The hotel is set in an orchard on the hill opposite the dzong. The rooms are charming and comfortable, panelled in wood and warmed by little pot-bellied stoves. Its location means that it's totally silent at night, a relief after the howling of dogs in other towns in Bhutan... But... more

Having traveled frequently to Bumthang, I am familiar with each of the major "hotels" in Bumthang and nothing even comes close in ambience, food and price. The guesthouse is run by a former Swiss immigrant, Fritz Maurer, who married locally and raised his family in Bumthang during the '70's. His son and daughter-in-law now run the day to day operation.... more
