We really enjoyed our stay at Manta lodge. Pemba itself is a beautiful island - it's a stunning hour and a half drive from the airport through tiny villages, clove plantations and incredibly intensively cultivated land. The lodge itself is right at the tip of the island on a lovely beach. It's got a new, enthusiastic, and very friendly Danish... more

I waited till now (July 08) to write my review on Manta Reef as I had mixed feelings about my stay there during Christmas 07. The place was so friendly and beautiful and we had a super holiday but we came back very dissapionted with the diving. This is of course not the fault of the resort.... but all write... more

Manta Reef Lodge is a true rough diamond. If you are looking for a "Rustic" 5 star this is it. The food, service and accomodation was truly a pleasure. The diving was an incredible experience with the reefs in pristine condition and the Dive masters well trained and knowledgable. One has to unfortunately mention that you need to double check... more

We spent a week at Manta Reef Lodge in March, shortly before the resort closes for the rainy season. We had an absolutely lovely time at the lodge. The rooms (ocean deluxe) were very spacious with a lovely view. It is basic accommodation, so don't expect A/C, phones or TVs, but that is a big part of the charm. The... more

I gave it a neutral for the reaosn that while we loved the whole remote, authentic, private, low-key vibe, we really were disturbed by the power cuts and low availability of food/drinks. It was extremely hot, and the option of warm white wine or murky water is not a good one. Ice is a rarity and doled out in limited... more

Getting there is not such fun - a 1,5 hour drive with the last 20 minutes being on a very very bad sand road (track) The forest you pass through is beautiful. Manta Reef has a spectacular beach and turquise blue sea. Its a prime peace of real estate ! Pro's 1) Location 2) diving 3) beach facility 4)weather 5)... more

Pemba is a must as it remains untouched and undeveloped, unlike Zanzibar. Manta Reef is a wonderful place to stay, starting with the welcoming and hospitable staff. From our arrival, they made sure we were comfortable and met just about any request we made. And the location is LOVELY. A wonderful view of the brilliant blue-green ocean, a great veranda... more

Well this place surpassed my expectations by miles!! If you are looking for 5 star luxuries, with a la carte restaurant, then don’t go – the place will be wasted on you. If you are looking for a little taste of paradise, in charming and friendly environment, then this will be the place for you. Right on the beach front,... more

We stayed at Manta Reef Lodge in February 2007. First a little explanation about why we stayed here: After visiting Zanzibar in 2003 and hearing the stories about unspoilt Pemba, we knew we wanted to go there. We did extensive research about the accommodation options on the island and roughly came to the conclusion that either we would have to... more

The holiday of a lifetime is supposed to be a one off experience - luckily my partner and I have had several. One of which was our recent trip to Africa. The first week was spent on safari in Kenya the second on Pemba at Manta Reef Lodge. The lodge is under the new management of Graham and his team... more
