Before going to Tanzania we had read all the reviews on tripadvisor about Chumbe Island. This had heightened our expectations and I was afraid I might be let down. But nothing could have prepared us for the amazing experience of Chumbe which is so friendly, warm and refreshing that none of the people we met there wanted to leave that... more

Go see Chumbe for what it is, an outstanding example of true eco- tourism. I'm rating it five stars as an eco-tourism educational experience. As a hotel and a honeymoon vacation destination, it was OK. The island is beautiful. The bungalows architecture is fascinating--we even had a bird nesting in ours. The way the center collects and stores rainwater, fascinating.... more

This place is true piece of heaven. My wife and I started a one month honeymoon in Tanzania here and, as great as the rest of the country was, nothing really compared to Chumbe. The staff is genuinely kind, caring, and attentive and the location can't be beat. Everything is serene and peaceful. We were lucky and the other people... more

This is a perfect eco-resort--a real eco-resort that goes to extreme lengths to maintain and preserve the coral island and park. If the idea of a composting toilet disgusts you, you will not enjoy this island. If you need a full-blast hot shower, luxury linens and a lot of privacy, you should try some place else. If, however, you like... more

We were lucky enough to spend 5 nights on this beatiful island over the Christmas holiday. It has all been said before by previous reviwers , tim spent here is unforgettable. We were surpised by how pretty this island itself was , the small beach with lovely huts , hammocks etc was just perfect for the 14 guests. Also, just... more

Chumbe Island is really a very special place on our planet. We had a three day stay but could of easily stayed longer. All the staff were very attentive and supportive towards the echo programme on the island. It was wonderful to experience staying on this echo island, The accomadation was extremely well designed every comfort was catered for. The... more

Everything has already been said about this place... how beautiful it is, how nice people are, how great the food is and how pristine the water is... all that is true... This place is a mini paradise, 40 minutes from the main island in Zanzibar... This is your chance to experience the Robinson Crusoe life coupled with one of the... more

One of the best places we stayed at overall. Facilities were better than we had been expecting (the compost toilet was fine), very friendly staff, brilliant excursions/activities (snorkelling, intertidal walk, forest walk) and educational. The bandas are cool and very easy to live in. Food was fantastic and we were well catered for as vegtarians Birthday cake and complimentary wine... more

This is one of the, if not THE very best place, that I have ever been to. I am a greenie, so the eco-appeal is what brought me here. However, this is luxury green at it's best. There are only 14 people allowed on the island at any time, even during the day. The 2 story houses (bandas) are all... more

My daughter and I recently went to Chumbe after ending Ramadan in Stonetown, Zanzibar. It was the most beautiful, incredible, Robinson Crusoe treat one could ever experience. Magical is the word! From the pristine white beaches and tidepools filled with sea life, to the bandas made from thatch and the cross breezes flowing through the huts, to the incredible staff... more
