We recently stayed at Maka Kai June 18-21. We were traveling with teenage boys and another couple. The accommodations were perfect. We felt very comfortable. The accomodation was very clean, well stocked with what we needed to prepare and cook meals, and Tom, our host, was wonderful even though we arrived after dark. The location is simply stunning, near Hamoa... more

We had the Lani Makaalae Studio, which was located just off the highway, but with a nice view and a private patio and garden. (And, honestly, there aren't that many cars going by!) The room itself was pretty clean and spacious, but with a few quirks – like no bathroom sink (you had to use the kitchen sink). The shower... more

My family recently stayed at the LANI MAKAALAE TOO. I will divide my review into 2 parts: facilities and host. The room was a good size for a family of 4 - comfortable and well-stocked. It could have been cleaner in some areas, like the kitchen cabinets, and it could have used some new paint in some areas. The grounds... more

This cottage is very private and has a very beautiful view of the ocean. You can hear the ocean from your bed and it is a lovely black beach. You can see the surfers as you eat dinner on the lanai (porch). Hana is a very small town so be prepared with food before driving down. The unit is clean... more

We were impressed when we arrived. I was expecting something less, I don't know why. It was a typical looking little house with nice decor inside. We stayed at the Maka Kai 3 bedroom cottage with 4 adults and 2 children. There was nothing bad we found about the property, and the kitchen was well stocked with pans and such... more

My wife and I spent one night at the Hideaway on June 12. Our main purpose was to allow two full days for traveling the road to Hana as part of a ten day vacation on Maui. The Hideaway fit all the requirements - clean, safe, comfortable, convenient, affordable and they were willing to accept a one night reservation, which... more

Just returned from a 10 day trip to Hawaii. The first four nights were spent at the Hotel Hana Maui, and what a time we had! As frequent vistors to Hawaii, we knew that the Hotel Hana had fallen on some bad times over the years. Having visited Hana a number of times on day- trips from West Maui, the... more

My daughter and I stayed here for one night while visiting Hana. It was within our budget and very charming. The people who run it are very relaxed and friendly. Since then, my daughter has stayed there each time she goes to Hana (she lives in Lahaina). The little studio has everything you would need - not noisy at night... more

Sorry... I guess I'm at that point in my life where I don't feel I have to "rough it" quite SO rough. Once we finally found the Hideaway (no easy task) we spent 15 minutes in the room listening to the cars whiz by outside... they may as well have been in the room with us, it's THAT close. Closing... more
