I stayed for 4 nights at the hotel while I was attending a conference at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. It was a nice experience. The room is smaller than normal but it was clean and nicely decorated. It's cozy for 2 people. I know there have been many complaints about the shower, but if you put the bathmat that is... more

I stayed at the Sofia for 5 nights on a recent business trip and have a mixed opinion. The pluses for me were: - A lovely room for a great price: I booked one of the larger suites and was glad I did - using the fire exit map for scale, I figured out how small the regular rooms were... more

We stayed here for my friend's bachelorette party. Although the hotel itself is very trendy and modern, simple things like the breaker being out in the bathroom and the sink being stopped up and missing the pull to release the drain were bothersome. Even after they sent someone up to fix the breaker (in plain clothes?) it still didn't work.... more

Stayed here for 3 nights in November 2007. Location is excellent, downtown with a short walk to Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp Quarter. Because it is right next to the Greyhound station it does attract some homeless people, but we were never bothered once. San Diego is certainly not alone in having homeless people, and this is hardly the fault... more

Generally, this was a pleasant one-night stay. The hotel has been nicely refurbished and they seem interested in providing the little touches that might qualify the place as as boutique hotel. At check-in, the showed us a map of the rooms and asked us if a corner room would be ok (they are a little bigger). Rooms: clean, well decorated.... more

We stayed at the Sofia hotel after another hotel could not accommodate our dog. The Sofia is pet-friendly (but just to be safe, do call ahead to double-check this). The staff was very courteous and friendly! The room was also nice - large double (may have been a queen?) bed that was very comfortable. An earlier review noted that the... more

We stayed at the Sofia for 3 nights March 27-30 and loved it! This great hotel is perfectly located for the Gaslamp quarter and all bus routes to the beaches etc. The room was clean and very nicely decorated and the staff polite and helpful. We especially enjoyed the free internet access in the lobby - we had spent a... more

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel and found it has some excellent things going for it. Don't judge this hotel by the outside and by the Greyhound bus terminal next door, just walk into the lobby and you will be surprised. The hotel had more staff at the front desk than my bank has tellers and they were all... more

We took our 15 and 17 year old kids to Sea World for Spring Break and a mini getaway. After reading nice reviews of the Sofia Hotel, and comparing prices of other nearby hotels, we chose the Sofia. What a great choice. After an exhausting full day at Sea World it took only ten minutes (all freeway) to arrive. Valet... more

The location of the Sofia can't be beat! Three blocks from the Gaslamp District with its night life and many food options, three blocks from the Seaport and ferry to Coronado, and one block from the trolley to Old Town. We found it very easy to navigate around the Sofia, and it's only an $11.00 cab ride from the airport.... more
