My son and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night while visiting Harvard. We were completely pleased with the service and comfort of the room. The front desk is very professional and very informative. The building is just beautiful from the moment you walk down the well landscaped ramp, to the lobby and finally the room. The architecture is... more

Many folks are talking about the age of this hotel. yes, it's an old building, but a beautiful old building. located on the western end of Cambridge - a bit past Harvard Square, the Commander is a quality hotel that's been well taken care of. I visited the Commander on business for 2 nites sucked in buy the lure of... more

I agree with other reviewers about the good service and stellar location. The rooms were nicely appointed with a very classic decor, but the age of the building definitely showed through. For example, the paint in the bathroom was peeling, and the showers had no water pressure whatsoever. We had to wait a couple of minutes for the water to... more

A manhole explosion in Harvard Square knocked out electricity to this hotel and they handled the situation with terrific customer service and lots of grace. Strong guys with flashlights were roaming the halls to help escort those of us checking out to the lobby via the stairs. He was very kind, apologetic and even carried my bag. The lobby quickly... more

This is a stately old hotel, impeccably maintained, of a kind that will one day be extinct. The lobby is huge and impressive. They just don't make lobbies like that anymore; it belongs to a different time when sitting in the lobby was a social experience. Our room was clean and spacious, with very classy and comfortable furniture. Flat-screen TV,... more

A qualifier of my review is that we judge hotel based on ability to accomodate our family of 5. We booked a 2 bedroom suite for an excellent rate on the hotel website and enjoyed a comfortable stay. The suite was not enormous but definitely afforded privacy for parents vs. children and made a week-long hotel stay very enjoyable. The... more

I'm Starwood Plat and got put on the SPG floor. Free water is nice but the room smells bad. I think they had a flood at some point and never got it fried out. Musty and moldy smell. Tears in the carpet. Chips in the paint on the door trimming. Gym had no clean towels and no TV. Not a... more

The hotel is situated just a minutes walk outside of Harvard. For somebody visiting Cambridge, not necessarily Boston, the location cant be beat. As for the hotel itself, it is very nice and seems to have been updated fairly recently. The rooms were clean and comfortable with usual Sheraton beds. My only real complaint is the lack of security. We... more

Overall, this is a nine hotel, with great architecture, and nice rooms (stayed on the executive floor). I found that the rooms were tastefully decorated, and emanated New England charm. Excellent bed, very comfortable! Only thing is the location, unless you have business in the vicinity, it's not convenient. more

The Hotel is next door to Radcliffe Yard and across from Harvard Yard. A short walk to the T station, means you really don't need a car. Restaurants are nearby and the T to Logan is easier than driving. We have stayed at the Commander before and always find the rooms comfortable, spacious and really made for sleeping. We had... more
