Four nights into our vacation we were thrilled to finally find a quality dining experience that didn’t smack of tourist trap. This charming little house just off the beat and track of the stores on Main Street offered an authentic level of quaintness that simply cannot be conjured up. Upon strolling the walkway leading past the candle light terrace area... more

The food, setting, and ambience were excellent and the price was surprisingly reasonable considering the many obscenely expensive restaurants and accomodations in Bar Harbor. My wife and I had dinner on Saturday August 9th at about 8:00pm. We sat outside in the garden patio and the ambience was very attractive - white lights strung in the trees and a talented... more

My husband and I ate dinner here on Friday, August 1, 2008. We had made a reservation the night before, and then called earlier in the day to move the reservation up (it was rainy that day). This was no problem, and we were seated promptly. The restaurant seemed pretty busy. I ordered the McKay salad to start, the cinnamon-speckled... more

This place has a wonderful outside garden with little lights and lush greenery. And believe me, we haven't found better outside dining in BH yet. The host was very professional and the service was equally congenial and efficient. The chef really knows good food because everything (not just one dish) was delicious: salads, apps and Halibut and Lobster entrees. We... more

In the past we would always rate McKays Excellent, but when we ate there in June the food was not as good and the service was not very good. We waited for our food, two of our five meals came out at least 10 minutes before the others and then we waited at least 20 minutes for the check. more

Ok. Maybe it was an off night but I don't understand the other reviews. I couldn't wait to get out of there. First, it was a little rainy and they sat us on a chilly porch (no room inside as a small wedding was going on upstairs). They were out of many things on the menu and were "improvising" and... more

We sat in the garden and enjoyed everything about the meal (ambiance, drinks, appetizer, salad) except one of our entrees. It was supposed to be broiled chicken that was obviously a left over that they had steamed or boiled to reheat and the meat was like mush and the skin wet paper. The fact that they served it rather than... more

We went to Mckay's on the advice of B&B hosts. We were seated promptly and had the option of sitting in the well tended garden or on the "porch." We chose the porch and loved the ambiance. Service was prompt and efficient. We started off with mussels which we both agreed were the best we ever had! We had to... more

My wife and I recently spent a week in Bar Harbor. We ended up at McKay's twice because we liked it so much. The lobster macaroni and cheese is the best meal ever and my wife really enjoyed her bouillabaisse. Should definitely be your first dinner stop in Bar Harbor. more

We were staying right next door at the Bar Harbor Grand and after a day exploring the island decided to walk on over. We chose to eat ouside and it was a beautiful night. I have to say I never did see the inside but we all had a good dinner. It wasn't to die for but the price was... more
