Hello everyone

My boyfriend and I have chosen to possibly do this tour with Papillion Heli tours - Grand celebration.

or which can you suggest?

The tour we are looking at leaves at 0700.(as its the cheapest) Is this too early? as I am not 100% when the sun rises there.. or is it worth it to pay about $60 more to do the sunset tour?

Thank you in advance for your advice. We can't wait!

Hi

I didnot take that tour but looked it up and I hope you realize this tour doesnot bring you to Grand Canyon National Park but to a place called Grand Canyon West. If you are planning to go to "West" maybe better put this question on the Las Vegas forum.

Grand Canyon National Park South Rim and North Rim is where you'll find the magnificent views you associate with the canyon: http://www.nps.gov/archive/grca/photos/ You will not find these at the area known as Grand Canyon West which is where the tour goes that you mention.

GC West, where skywalk is located, is not in the national park. The canyon is impressive there, but not nearly as awesome as at GCNP. It is also expensive to visit as you've found out. Do your research before you decide to go there. The reviews on TA are mixed. tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g31306-d12…

A night in the national park, which is what this forum is about, is best. That will enable you to catch a sunset and sunrise. It's a five hour drive from LV to the South Rim over good highways. Here's the lodging link http://www.grandcanyonlodges.com/ and the NPS webpage link for GCNP http://www.nps.gov/grca/ If you can’t plan a night there into your itinerary, tour companies operate day trips via motor vehicles and fixed wing aircraft from Las Vegas to the South Rim. There are helicopter flights over a part of the canyon at GCNP, but no helicopter trips go directly from LV to GCNP.

If you have specific questions about Grand Canyon National Park South or North rims, you can post them in the Arizona>Grand Canyon National Park forum.

You're coming all the way from Australia and you want to see the Grand Canyon. You need to go to the South Rim at the Grand Canyon Nat'l Park. It will only cost a little bit more, and will require a bit more time, but if you only go to gcwest, you'll be spending your money on something other than what you really want to do.

It would be like me traveling to your continent to see the Great Barrier Reef, and spending my money for a bus ride to Port Douglas and never going off shore to the GBR itself.

The scenery at gcwest is pretty, nut it is NOT the Grand Canyon that you've seen and read about all your life.

Do your research and make a decision to see the real Grand Canyon. Check this link

Thanks RedRox and Texhills,

You are so right. I actually had no idea, and I want to see the best of The Grand Canyon that I can. I totally get what you mean when you refer to Port Douglas and not seeing the reef.. There is just no point and you dont get the real feel about the place.

We have already booked 5 nights in Vegas, so I dont think I can do any overnights at the Grand Canyon.

The only other thind I saw was the bus tour and that takes 13hours!!! its the same as the flight over!

But if thats what we have to do.. then I guess we'll do it. or are there any other suggestions and I will continue to search the forum for any other ideas.

Thanks a bunch!

=)

Hi there

Have a look at the canyon connoisseur tour with papillion. It might suit you. It goes to the south rim by plane from vegas and you can add on a heli tour over the canyon. It lasts about eight hours. Including the helitour it costs the same as the grand celebration tour.
