my friend and i are considering a trip to bermuda this weekend - aug. 8th-10th - so he can get his passport stamped and i can get the heck out of nyc for w/end. i don't know anything about bermuda, where to stay, eat, or hang out..but the facts are these: we dont need frills, but a view would be nice, we like to fish, swim, and drink rum in any concoction, bum around town, meet some locals, hear some stories and tell some of our own. he is a boater/diver from oz and i am a designer/foodie from nyc.

we would be grateful for any and all ideas you nice island folks are interested in giving.

thanks!

I would suggest you call 1-800-BERMUDA and give them your budget guidelines and ask if they can recommend something which is available.

You might also consider calling Fiona Campbell at

Tel: 1 (877) 730-1352 (Toll Free) or 1 (416) 232-2243

No, she manages a number of rentals in Bermuda some of which are quite inexpensive (in comparison to hotels in BDA).

You say that your friend is going in order to get his passport stamped. I assume that you know that you need a passport too.

Be sure to check out Hog Penny (pub)on Burnaby St. in Hamilton to enjoy a good meal and some fun.

Lots to see - no matter where you decide to stay, get a moped from Oleander Cycles and then see it all "your" way. Have fun!

For 'no frills'...try SALT KETTLE GUEST HOUSE, across Hamilton Harbour fron down town Hamilton.

Excellent. Sounds *exactly* like my wife and me. I hope you two have a great time in Bermuda - we loved it! We arrived via cruise ship so alas I cannot offer advice but I could not pass up the chance to comment on our kindred spirits. Have fun.

Thanks everyone for your reccomendations!

Unfortunately there was no availability at the places suggested - since we are booking so late - so we ended up booking at "mazarine by the sea". hope it is as nice as the reviews say it is! it seems a bit remote, but the plan is to rent a scooter.

Does anyone have restaurant suggestions for this area?
