Group traveling Feb. 2009 |
|
A group of friends (10-15) is trying to select our vacation spot (one week) for 2009 . T&C is on our short list of possibilities, so we are seeking additional information before we make our final decision. Priorities: 1) On the beach. 2) Lodging - Moderate/mid price range. If we all can't stay at the same place we like to have other options within walking distance. 3) Restaurants - Would prefer to have a variety of options within walking distance so we can try something different each night during our stay. Really like to hit the local spots. 4) Night life - Enjoy live music when it's available. 5) Activities - Like to have some choices/variety. With a group this size everyone picks and chooses what they want to do during the day, some shopping, some exploring, some snorkeling, others simply want to relax on the beach all day. We usually all meet up in late afternoon and evening. In February 2008, 15 of us spent a week at Cane Garden Bay (Tortola) and we thoroughly enjoyed it. So we're looking for a similar option on another island. Any recommendations? Would Grace Bay be a viable option? |

I will answer some of the questions. I would try and stay at Ocean Club West. But only the West building. It is right by Ports of call with a few different restaurants and shopping. Also then you can walk up and down the street and still go to a few different restaurants near by. Night life......well there is not a lot but right at Ports of Call on Fridays at Calico Jacks they ususally have a band and dancing. Activities....mostly watersports like a snorkeling cruise, parasailing, banana boat rides, snuba, diving, and snorkeling at the reefs off the beach. Hope that helps

There was a large group staying at the Alexandra when I left and they said they got a discount on the rooms because they rented so many. The Alexandra is also in the moderate price range, on a great stretch of beach and within walking distance to 4 or 5 restaurants. I don't know what kind of discount they got, maybe all the resorts offer this, doesn't hurt to ask. www.oceancluresorts.com make sure to get the Ocean Club West These are basically the resorts in mid range price and within walking distance to a few restaurants. If you are also looking for car rentals www.gracebaycarrentals.com has the best prices. If anyone in your party is interested in renting a car for a day or two. He will deliver and pick up.

We had 10 staying at the Palms. Some stayed in the 2 bedroom suites, which had a great living area and porch to hang out on. We stayed in an individual room. Ate at a different hotel restaurant each night within walking distance. They had live music at one of them. Some of us broke off and walked down to coral gardens for a snorkel without the rest. Couple of times a few would catamaran, next day all of us would go out. The Palms was perfect for our group. Small enough where would could easily find each other (if we wanted to), but had enough to keep us all entertained.

I'll give you my 2 cents.... 1) BEACH - The Sands is located on the beach about mid-way on grace bay. The Beach itself is wide swaths of golden white sand. The water is warm (although not 100% sure of Feb time) and an unbelievable shade of clean turquoise being very calm. 2) ACCOMMODATION - The sands in Feb (high time) will be about $275-$300/night. As per previous suggestion, may want to look into a 2-bedroom or 3-bedroom. All the rooms have been or are in the midst of being newly renovated. 3) RESTAURANTS - There are some within a 10 min walk on the beach or on the road, but a couple you'd be better of taking a cab. 4) NIGHT LIFE - not much, but I've done calico jacks on the weekends and it gets good crowds with some neat bands. There are a couple of casinos but they are small. 5) ACTIVITIES - Tons of Activities. Some of our friends go diving, we've done snorkeling. The Sands has Free-to-use Kayaks, wind sail boards, 4 person hobies, etc This July will be my 4th time in 7 years to TCI. We love it because there is just enough activity not to get bored and we never feel guilty about sitting on the beach and having rum punch served to us under our nice little umbrella.
