It is a very large city so obviously some areas are much more dangerous than others. However if you stick to the main tourist areas (which are well-policed) and use common sense (don't wander aimlessly at night, don't wear flashy jewelery, don't walk around drunk etc.) then you should be fine.

Yes it is safe. turistic police is on duty 24/7. If you are visiting the city don't miss poquitomexico.blogspot.com

is a cool site with lots of tips and recommendations for your trip.

Also if you are travelling for two days only, take the "Turibus" that takes you to the highlights of the city in one day for $15US

cheers

Had late comida today with a Brit who has lived in Mexico City for 25 years (well, he is now senior enough in Rolls Royce, that he spends 3 days a week here).

He and his wife love La Ciudad, and have no fears.

Well as of this AM between Oakland & San Francisco we have had 149 murders this year so where is it "Safe".

Seriously I find if you use normal big city precautions The DF is very safe.

Don't get cabs off the street, don't flash money, be polite to all & DO NOT GO where you do not belong.
