5 top things to do & 3 must eat restaurant in Vancouver, Can |
|
My husband & I are making a 3 1/2 day trip to Vancouver for our 20th anniversary in early October. We want to make sure we see the best sights & eat at least the most delicious/favorite restuarants of the locals. Any suggestions on things that are so cool/interesting/beautiful we just should not miss them. Thanks |

To eat, 1. Il Guardino, outstanding Italian food, service and atmosphere 2. The Cannery, best seafood with a view in the city 3. Grouse Nest, food OK but when it is clear, the view from the top of Grouse Mountain is nothing short of spectacular. Things to do, 1. Capalino suspension bridge for a fee or Lynn Canyon suspension bridge for free 2. Queen Elizabeth Park, a garden in an (supposedly) extinct volcano 3. Stanley Park, world famous for a reason 5. Granville Island, shop till you drop and drink some local micro brewery beer 5. Since it is an anniversary, pick very good hotel and hang out the "do not disturb" sign LOL Have a great time.

Too many restaurants! check www.dinehere.ca for real reviews by locals..narrow down the type of food/price range/area then check Top 3 really depends on what you are looking for French? Le Crocodile $ Pastis Hip with oysters and overall good food? Blue Water Cafe Always excellent local intimate? Bishop's on fourth One of top rated? West Fun ( servers are hilarious) quick Japanese fusion? Guu on Robson near Cardero Classic great seafood? the Fish House in Stanley Park Top attractions Stanley Park + Aquarium Granville Island..be sure to venture past the market to the artist galleries, glassblowers, cra galleries etc Museum of Anthropology CLOSED ( so sad)while you are here so you'll have to come back..it is at the top of my list Lynn Canyon Park imo better than capilano.. it's free, and while the bridge isn't as long it's west coast nature at its finest. Easily reached y public transit A ride on the seabus ( public transit)..to get to North Vancouver, Lonsdale quay and Grouse Mountain,Lynn Canyon and other north shore attractions A ride on the Aquabus water taxi to get to Granville Island If the weather is nice a splurge on a tour with Harbor Air www.harbor-air.com.. go for a flight in a small plane and really see the mountains and the area. Dr. Sun Yat Sen classical gardens what are your interests? can add many more things specifically tailored to interests.

For dining, I like the first suggestion of Pete's: Il Giardino 1382 Hornby Street Vancouver, BC 604.669.2422 inquire@umberto.com I thought they had closed, but I still see them on the website www.hotelvilladelia.com/restaurants.cfm and there have been some reviews from this year, so I am happily mistaken. Several of the other recommendations are great too. There are lots of good restaurants in Vancouver. Heck, if you're staying at a downtown hotel, and you limit your choices to walking distance from there, you're still going to have a tough time deciding. Cheers!

After almost 20 years of driving by wistfully, I FINALLY got to Bishop's for my birthday last year, and it did not disappoint!! A fabulous meal, the most outstanding service ever, and my meal was served personally by John Bishop himself! I was thrilled. :>

You didn't say where you are from but here goes: Hotel: Wedgwood, a great (and romantic) boutique hotel right downtown. Great service, fabulous bar and a very good restaurant, Bacchus. Right across from Robson Square and 1/2 block from the Art Gallery and 1 1/2 blocks from shopping at Pacific Centre or around the block from shopping on Robson Street. Restuarants. It depends on your interests. For something extraordinary, Vij's for Indian food like you have never had it. Only drawback is no reservations but the people watching makes the wait worthwhile if you don't want to be there at 5:30 pm. Tojo's for unbelievable Japanese food. Reservations essential. Bishops and West are greatstandbys. Il Giardino is a bit tired. You will get a much better meal at Villa del lupo. The Cannery may be closing and is touristy in any event. As is Grouse or any restaurant with a view. You pay for the view not the food. La Provence Marinaside has great seafood (C's is overpriced and pretentious). Chow in South Granville is young and hip. Raincity Grill has never disappointed and is on English Bay for a nice romantic walk on the Seawall after dinner. Yaletown with too many hip restaurants full of beautiful people to mention.

Lots of the good suggestions for places to go also have great restaurants. If you go to Queen Elizabth Park, then Seasons in the Park is lovely and has one of the best views on and of the city. Also Granville Island has good restaurants from Bridges to Sandbar to Afghan Horsemen. Both Tojos (Japanese) and Bishops (BC cuisine is the best way I can put it) have been suggested. In my opinion these are two of the best restaurants in the city without paying insane prices (they are not cheap, but are definitely worth it). I have eaten amazing and memorable meals at both. We just got back from our trip to Vancouver & Whistler, celebrating a 60th B'day & 25th anniversary. Vancouver is great city, friendly people, nothing seems that far, very walkable. We lucked out with the weather, spectacular clear warm days. We rented bikes, rode thru & around Stanley park, stopped at beautiful English Bay, & had lunch at Milestones, which was good. We also took the ferry over to Granville Island marketplace, (wish we had one here), such a selection of different foods & shops. Went to see the Beluga whales at the aquarium, in Stanley Park. Even if you don't bike ride walking thru the park is just beautiful. We took the trolley first morning, it gives you an overview of the city. We had a nice lunch at Steamers,(on the water) fish & chips we're good with the yam fries. We also ate one night at Pinkies in Yaletown, & at the Savory Coast on Robson, both have patios, & good food. We enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt, great location, & the beds were very comfy...........! Congrats,.......enjoy your stay!
