1 day trip |

My sister and I will be in Halifax on Sept 23 for 1 day(on a cruise). Does anyone have any suggestions for 2 senior citizens for touring. We can not do a lot of walking. We do not know whether to use the cruise ship's excursions or to rent a car and do our thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Barbara |

Depends on what you want to see. If you want to go to Peggy's Cove or stay downtown and explore. If you are going to Peggy's Cove, it might be easiest for you to take the excursion. If you are exploring downtown Halifax, call a taxi to meet you at the dock. The casino taxi's are usually down along the waterfront, so you shouldn't have to wait long for a cab. www.casinotaxi.ns.ca/Pages/aboutus.html Get them to run you to the Harbour Hopper tour bus. It might cost you $5 in cab fare? Take the Harbour Hopper around the city instead of walking. Plus there is a metro bus that is painted green, and has FRED splashed on the side. It stands for Free Rides Everywhere Downtown. Just jump on and off this bus for free. There are rickshaws around Halifax, but I'm not sure where to get onto one, probably down on the waterfront near the Harbour Hopper. (where you sit in the carriage and the person runs you around). I see them all over downtown, and many tourists enjoying them. A BIG tip to your driver, and he or she will probably run you all over downtown in style!

Speaking as a senior, I think you might enjoy the Grey Line Deluxe Halifax tour more than the Hopper one, which is aimed at a younger crowd. ambassatours.com/TOURSVACATIONS/…Default.aspx And as cgreno mentioned, the FRED bus will take you all around downtown and you can hop on and off it. It stops right near the cruise ship dock. http://www.halifax.ca/metrotransit/fred.html I wouldn't bother renting a car unless you want to go out of town. Downtown Halifax, where most of the sights are, is quite small, although hilly. The FRED bus stops near most of the sights.
