i am travelling to ottowa next weekend with my girlfriend. i would like to know what i really must see and do to get the full experience. i would like to know of a really nice restaurant in a good area to have dinner on the friday night, i like all type sof food but i want the restaurant to be in an area where i can walk from here to a few nice bars for a drink to help relax. and then for saturday some help would be appreciated in finding out what i should see and do, i would like to see as much of the nice buildings scenery as possible, i fancy walking along the canal for a while etc... then finally herself wants to know where some good shops can be found. any help would be really appreciated. Hi Gloinny, Refer to this recent post in the FORUM for some great ideas. tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g155004-i181-k2287… Bars and Restaurants in the Downtown core centre around two areas primarily, the Byward Market and Elgin Street. You can check out Restaurant Reviews here on TA by clicking on the RESTAURANTS button on the left of this page. There are also lots of local Ottawa Websites dedicated to the Restaurant and Food industry, my favourite is www.ottawafoodies.com which in addition to Restaurant Reviews also has a variety of info on food related things to do (like the Farmers' Markets, Cooking Classes etc) in the Ottawa area. The website is very extensive, and has a great following by Ottawa Chefs, Food Writers and Food Tv personnel. It is has over 1000 listings and is interactive. Shopping can be found in a variety of venues downtown. There is of course the Rideau Centre for the mall experience with large national and international chain stores. There is also right across the street the Byward Market with small shops and kiosks, as well as some trendy shops along Sussex Drive. Farther afield, but still downtown there is shopping along Sparks Street (aka the Sparks Street Mall) and Bank Street. Here you will find a variety of shops, and farther down Bank (hop a cab or a bus) is Bank Street South... more trendy shops with Antiques, Kitchen Shops, etc. This should get you started, Cheers! The post(S) above give a very good link to all things Ottawa, as well as the tripadvisr page on Ottawa. It has the top 10 of everything do see and do. I do suggest the Sweetgrass Bistro for a very unique dining experience. It is very Canadian and local foods. You will enjoy it very much. | ||||||
