Oh, my goodness. "Nicest" is so relative, isn't it? I would say you can't really go wrong with any of these choices (except keep in mind that the Relais Lyonnais is in the Latin Quarter, not Old Montreal). My personal favourite is the Gault -- but that's only because it appeals to my zen-like tastes and it's tucked away on a quiet street. But to be fair, I've never been in the Relais Lyonnais, although it's right around the corner from me.

How far is the Latin Quarter from Old Montreal? What is the main difference between the 2 different areas??

Hello, Le St-Sulpice in Old Montreal is a beautiful hotel and plus you are well located - the food at the hotel restaurant is very good, - you are about 5 minutes away from the Notre Dame Basilica I send all my clients to this hotel the Nelligan hotel not far from le St Sulpice is nice too:) On the other hand, ive never been to the hotel in the latin quartier but i think you would rather stay in Old Montreal as there is much more to see ( events, bars, cafe...) Enjoy!

My favorite is the Nelligan. I love the rooms, the ambiance, the location, the staff, the terrace on the roof etc..etc.. As the esteemed Tristou stated, it's really a matter of personal taste. As to distance between the Latin Quarter and Old Montreal, this is a great map, where you can see for yourself that it's about a 20 minute walk.. quartierlatin.ca/en/img/pdf/geo-2007.pdf Here's another link with everything you ever wanted to know about the area:

I've stayed at the Relais Lyonnais and would recommend it highly. It's a very short walk (5-10 mins) to Old Montreal but it's location in the Latin Quarter places it amongst a plethora of shops, fabulous restaurants etc.
