We are planning a 2-weeks' visit to Bavaria in April next year and I'm drawing up an itinerary at the moment. I would be very grateful if someone could advise whether the following cities make good night stops/bases for our travel through bavaria as well as the travelling time between the cities. Due to time constrains, we'll be focusing on the Bavarian Alps and the Eastern side of Bavaria as well as the Romantic Road.

We are planning to drive and intend to base ourselves in order of the following places as we travel around the region:

1. Munich

2. Salzburg

3. Regensburg

4. Bamberg

5. Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber

6. Fussen

Many thanks!

Sounds like an ok plan to me. All the places on your list are worth a stay.

The trip to these destinations could be done just as well, and probably much cheaper, by train.

Sounds like a nice trip.

To reduce the packing/unpacking routine I'd suggest that you combine Munich and Füssen, Bamberg and Rothenburg - stay in just one of those places and daytrip to the other, or stay at some midpoint between the two.

I would agree with Blandine that the train would generally be cheaper for these destinations. Daypasses for 2-5 people are only 27 Euros/day.

I live in the Salzburg area half of the year. I always stay at the hotel Moosleitner in Freilassing. Talk to Tony, it is a nice hotel and central to many day trips. April is nice.
