The price of a First Class Swiss Transfer Ticket from the Swiss Travel System is CFR192 vs. US$164 from Rail Europe. Even with the Rail Europe mark-up and shipping fee, their price is still cheaper due to the weak dollar. Aside from the NYC Subway, the Transfer Ticket is the extent of my annual train travel. So, my rail expert friends, what am I missing??

Hi gotlegal,

I'm not sure I understand your question. I don't think you're missing anything.

Many folks (including ME) don't like Raileurope because they charge excess amounts for their point-point tickets, but they are pretty competitive for their passes. This is especially true since they set the cost of the passes last year; then the dollar tanked, and passes become more expensive when bought in Switzerland using a current exchange rate.

You should also investigate the Half Fare Card (99 chf, then everything is half fare) and the Swiss Card.

Have fun!

Hi, gotlegal, I'd bet that the transfer ticket is still priced at the annual contract rate and will go up dramatically with the new contract! I'm planning to get mine for January before that happens. I think those contracts run over a calendar year.
