It'll take you a good 2 hours to get to Lefkas from Parga. We did the trip in the opposite direction last May, I did not drive that fast admittedly and it took us 2.5 hrs. Its worth visiting Lefkada town and the best beeches are on the west coast.

Silly me just realised you did it the other way round lol

If you want a beach that's no distance, try Kastro beach, it's where all the locals go. After you cross the rattly swing bridge onto Lefkada island, instead of turning left to go along the causeway into town, immediately turn right instead [I think it's signposted Ag Gianni]. In about 50 yards the road bends sharp left. Immediately after the left bend you'll see a road leading half-right onto the beach [NOT the road that leads down to the harbourfront and lighthouse, it's after that]. There's a grotty tumbledown wine factory there -- you can park behind this, and walk a few yards to the beach. There are a few umbrellas and an uninspiring cafe at the end, but it's better if you have your own stuff as the beach goes on forever and you can find your own spot. It's great swimming water, very clear, and the views are beautiful. Or stay on the road and drive further on [with the lagoon on your left], there is beach on your right [pebble/shingle] all the way for about 7 km, but the further round you go, the windier it gets.

If you have time it's well worth going a bit further to Kathisma beach, about 20 mins from Lefkada town, signposted from various places in town centre or ask anyone! It has several tavernas and pool bars, but also plenty of space if you just want to chill.

I agree that Lefkada town is very well worth visiting. Don't just walk up the main [pedestrianized] street, wander around the sidestreets and get lost. Be careful where you park, they really will fine you!

Also nice if you have time is Karya village, up in the mountains about 20-25 mins drive. Leave Lefkada town on the Nidri road, then watch for a right turn to Karya on the outskirts of town. Mountain views, shady square with plane trees & tavernas, traditional mountain village to stroll around [and buy rugs or embroidery, if you like that kind of thing].

I beg to differ (with gasman) the drive is approx 30mins from Parga to tunnel and a further 20 mins (the most 30) from the tunnel to Lefkada town - I know I do the two journeys loads of times!!!

It's a straight forward drive!

Come see me in Preveza and try to stay a night there! When will you be in Greece - maybe you're here when there's the sardine festival in Preveza!

Really explore Lefkada town the back streets are really strange - even for Greeks!!! The roads all lead back to the square or sea so you can't get lost - I recommend the Margarita Taverna on the harbour front - in front of the kids play area - great lamb chops! Also Ev Zhin (spelling) for a different cuisine!

Life in the town happens around the square and along the main shopping street. Personally if pressed for time I wouldn't waste it going to the beaches - I would however try to go round the island - the villages high up in Lefkada are like you've left the island and stepped back in time! Some of the residents haven't even been down to the sea! I know from personal experience of talking to locals.
