Sydney to Ayres rock |
|
Howdy, my wife and I are planning a trip to Oz next January and was wondering whats the best way to travel to Ayres rock. We have checked out flights from Sydney but they seem to be very expensive. We are also visiting Cairne and Brisbane, and was wondering if there is a fast train or any other forms of transport direct from any of these places. We're planning to spend 1 to 2 days there but don't want to blow our budget. If anyone has any idea's, please drop me a line . If anyone has any tips about what to do in any of these places, please let me know, thanks for reading and please help if you can. Cheers.

Hi Teamkernow19, January obviously is right in the middle of our Xmas break, which means flights accommodation etc will be much higher being peak travel time. You haven't indicated how long your visit is for, and are you only doing Qld, or travelling elsewhere? I have checkout www.flightcentre.com.au which lists all providers for flights to any region. There are direct flights from Cairns ( 2hrs 45mins) starting at $388 EACH WAY. If flying from Brisbane, they actually take you down to sydney, then change flights to go direct to Ayers. It looks as though Qantas if the only provider. But if you do your research there are packages which will include accom. It is very isolated out there, and a long way from anywhere. Depending on the rest of your itinerary, Australia has sooooooo much to offer, you may be better to spend your $'s and go elsewhere. All places mentioned by you have lots to see, depending on your times there. Just do plenty of research on the tourist sites. Also, Why have you put your post on the Tasmanian page? That state is far away from where you were mentioning. You may get more feedback if on another forum page. Anyway, hope this has been of some help to you. I am travelling to Tassie soon, which is why I was reading posts on this area. Cheers

Hello Team Kernow 19, WOW where does one begin. Yep it would be important to know how many days you have for travelling. To get to Ayers Rock ( Yularu) you have only two options Fly or drive. or the other nearest option is 350km away is Alice Springs which you can fly , drive or train into. No such thing as fast trains in Australia. The train runs from either Darwin or Adelaide into Alice Springs. It is a bit expensive to fly to Alice or Ayers Rock but it is a bloody long way away from the coast so....this costs. But I can assure you it is breath takingly beautiful. I have been many times. Why not fly into Alice Springs and hire a Britz or Kea Campervan and self drive there is a great tourist drive that you could do that would take you to Kings Canyon/Yulara and Kata Juta ( The Olgas) . I would alllow 3 to 4 days in the centre of Australia. Happy to give you more information on Cairns and The Centre of Australia when you have a better idea of your itinerary. Brisbane.......I guess you visit BNE if you are seeing relatives or want to go to the Gold Coast to visit man made attractions like sea world and the like. Me I am not into theme parks but happy to help with nature based touring as that is my passion. Cheers Lynne

I suggest reposting in the NT forum or the whole of Australia one. Flying would be the least hassle by far and obviously given the distance the quickest. To get there from Syd or Bris you could drive inland but the cost of that would end up comparable to flying anyway. side note - A.R. is known now as Uluru =)
