We will be travelling down in late May for a holiday, I have missed the last few of my wifes birthdays so i would like to do something special. We will be in hobart for her birthday the 29th May. So i would love some ideas on a romantic resturant. Price no problem.

In addidtion to this i need a respectable reliable babysitter for the night. must be female. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in anticipation of some replies.

Choux shop in Victoria St in the city is lovely - it is small and intimate with a wonderful ambience and the food is simply divine. I would definitely recommend booking ahead. I don't think they are open on Mondays.

If you wanted something grander - you really can't beat the revolving restaurant at Wrest Point.

Other options you may like to consider are Lebrina (modern australian with a french influence), Alexanders Restaurant at Lenna of Hobart, or Meadowbank Estate (about a 15 to 20 minutes drive from the city - but well worth it).

It's very difficult to get a table anywhere in Hobart without a booking - I can't recommend this strongly enough.

Sorry, I can't help you with the babysitter!

Thanks for the advice, Lenna has been very helpful and have given me the name of their preferred babysitting service. So unless something else spectacular comes up i think that Lenna will be the place. Once again thanks to those that replied.

I'd go for the cornelian bay boathouse

http://www.theboathouse.com.au/

I quite like it. Monday night would be quiet I expect.

If it was me and I was going for a special meal - I'd book a table near the window (they have a great view of the bridge). But ask them to put a heater near the table

Alternatively grab a spot by the fire.

We walked past Lennas but didn't dine there. If I was your other half I'd be happy to dine there for my birthday. Seems to have a nice ambience.

We had eaten at Gondwana which is not too far away

I have to say I've never enjoyed a meal more than that one we had at Gondwana. The whole package was perfect that night. The food was faultless. The host was really friendly but not instrusive. The service was spot on. They provide delightful little taste morsels between courses. The atmosphere was cosy by not cloying. Battery Point has an awesome romantic atmosphere at night (we were there in winter). Spot on.
