There are plenty of trains daily from Prague to Brno - the faster ones tend to go from Holesovice station and the journey is 2 hours 40 minutes/cost 236 Crowns 2nd class or 314 Crowns 1st class (£7 or £9.50). There is no need to reserve, despite the fact it may say that it is recommended. There is also the 'Pendolino' service, which costs 400 Crowns, but this is not really worth it for the extra 10 minutes you save and the cramped conditions.

Check this jizdnirady.idnes.cz/ConnForm.asp… for train times.

Buses go all the time from outside Florenc bus station - Student Agency is one of the companies, and there are others. You can buy the tickets from the ticket offices there before the bus goes - there should be no shortage. Depending on the traffic the journey takes about 2.5 hours. Admittedly it is cheaper, but I always prefer the train as I hate being cramped up for so long - and a tenner for a 2.5 hour train journey first class doesn't break the bank and it is a much nicer way to arrive.

Have a nice journey, and I hope you enjoy Brno - it is a great place.

Hello GCEK, a question if you don't mind answering -

How can I get from the Prague airport to the train station to take the train to Brno? How much time does it take and how much does it cost?

Or maybe there is a bus service to Brno from Prague airport?

I am flying Ryanair - is there only one airport in Prague?

thanks for any help or web links.

You get the 119 bus to Dejvicka metro station (last stop), go six stops to Muzeum on the metro, then transfer to line C and go 4 stops to Holesovice. It takes about 45 minutes in total so you can get just a single ticket - they cost about 26 Crowns. Stamp it when you get on the 119 bus and don't lose it until you get to Holesovice.

Some of the trains go from the main station (Hlavni Nadrazi), but they take much longer - in that case you can walk from Muzeum metro stop, or go one stop on the metro.

jizdnirady.idnes.cz/vlakyautobusy/spojeni/ for all times and train prices. Go first class (prvni trida) - it doesn't cost that much extra and just gives you that little bit more legroom.

There is only one airport in Prague. There are buses run by Student Agency - you can buy tickets in Prague airport from their booth and there should be plenty of space - I think they go every hour. Otherwise if you get the 'Supercity train' there is a bus connection that takes you to Holesovice and comes in the price of the train ticket.

I personally hate buses, but that is my problem...

Have a great time in Brno - it is a fantastic city which is pretty much unblighted, unlike the main tourist centres - so enjoy it and tell everyone what a terrible place it is when you come back so it remains that way :)

Greetings fellow Ipswich resident!

Also consider the DPP Airport Express Bus which goes direct from the Airport to Holesovice station, you don't need to change at all and is faster. The down side - cost - it's more than using 119/A/C but not a king's ransom by any means, from memory its about an extra quid.

Something else to think about - if you trip is not booked yet: easyJet fly Stansted-Prague and Ryanair fly Stansted-Brno so if you plan on visiting these two cities you can construct your own low-cost open jaw itinerary.

Good one to know - I'll bear that in mind for next time (but we usually go via Bratislava anyway)

Cheers!

Hello friends, I'm back again, sorry!

The links for the trains given, either do not exist or are in Czech, would anyone look up a train time for me? From Prague to Brno, leaving Prague in the mornings between 8am and 10am, and also the trains leaving Brno for Prague between 8am and 10am.

Thanks!

If you go to www.idos.cz then click the English button at the bottom it will tell you all you need to know (including price).

There is a train at 0823 from Holesovice arriving at 1049, then 0933 arriving 1215.

I've got to go out now - I'll let you work out the site - it definitely works! Make sure you spell the names of the places right :)

Actually forget the 0823 - you need to reserve it and it costs a lot more for not much time saved.

Actually, I'd seriously consider the SuperCity train at 8:23 since it is an air conditioned train and it will be VERY HOT tommorow (when I assume you want to travel).

If you buy the ticket the day before the day of travel there is a special Prague-Brno fare of 175 CZK + 200 CZK seat reservation fee for Pendolino trains.
