I am planning holiday in Bled August 2009.

My daughter follows a vegan diet so selfcatering might be our best bet. allthough B/B may be ok if we were likley to find cafe etc. that might provide vegan diet.

We will not have transport so in or very near town will be best.

All ideas very welcome

many thanks

Hi Pat

We have booked a self catering holiday in Kranjska Gora with Balkan holidays who give you the option of booking accomodation only so you dont have to do the package with the flight, transfer etc.

We dont arrive until 13th Aug so will let you know how it goes- we're staying in the Vitranc apartments which also have the use of the Hotel Larix and Kotnik swimming pools and it's cost us £725 for the 4 of us for 14nights. There is a supermarket opposite so I expect you would be able to buy any food you need. Its an idea anyway!

I am too looking for an apartment in Bled, and I'll be happy to get some recommendations. Kranjska Gora is about 30 minuts drive from Bled.

We stayed at the Bledea apartments which we have already recommended to 2 friends who have both stayed there and said how nice they were.

They are located on the edge of town a short walk from the lake in a beautiful peaceful spot. There is a supermarket at the end of the lane where you can pick up supplies.

The website is www.bleadea.com

The property looks like a swiss chalet and is divided into small apartments with full kitchen facilities.

We have also stayed at the Bledea Appartments on numerous times over the last 2 years and can only agree with what has already been said. The appartments are very quiet, spotlessly clean and have everything you will need. Matjas and Delja ( the owners) live next door and are really helpful if needed. Its only a short walk into town. Slovenia is a fantastic country and we visit about 3 times a year and would throughly recommend it and the Bledea appartments. Enjoy your stay - only 3 weeks until we go again

thankyou so much for the info re. Bledea appartments , they sound good.

Are they featured in a UK brochure or did you book appartment and flights independently?

We do not know if they are in any brochures - we booked flights and accommodation separately

Have just returned from 10 days at Lake Bled staying in an apartment in Mlino, a hamlet by the side of the lake, see website www.jezero.co.uk for more information. This is our fifth visit and we just love it there.

From the house, it is less than 5 minute walk down the lane to the lake where there's a couple of places to eat & a supermarket or you can take a pleasant stroll along the lakeside into Bled for more entertainment.

We only occasionally hire a car as there's such a reliable bus service that runs by the lakeside. You can use it to visit Ljubljana, Lake Bohinj & many other interesting places.

I'm sure you'll really enjoy Bled, plenty of lovely walks, swimming in the lake and of course the castle and island to visit.
