I just came back from Vilnius on Friday and a taxi cost 50 litas - about £12, but you can get the number 2 bus and would cost about £1. The trip takes about 10 minutes. We stayed at the Panorama Hotel which is across from the bus station and cost £70 for a double room for 3 nights and includes breakfast.

If you are going to the centre, or the old town tere is no reason to use Taxi. As craftyjules already mentioned take a bus, but don't make mistake craftyjules made, No1 to go to the old town No2 the centre. Taxi from the airport should cost 20-25 litas, but not for you.

Generaly to take the taxi from the airport will cost you double then for locals, who knows the language and the prices. You can try no negotiate :)

For your longer staying in Vilnius you can also rent a car - cheap local car rental www.busikas.lt or www.cityrent.lt.

Regarding staying, try Youth Hostel "A Hostel" in Sodu str. 8 - in the center of Vilnius, near railway, bus station, also not far from airport. Also you cant try Old Town Hostel in Ausros vartu str. 20-15 (in Vilnius oldtown, near railway and bus station, not far from Vilnius airport). Prices - till 20 Eur per person.
