I'm planning my wedding for October 2009 in Maui, and wondering if anyone else on the forum has married on the island and has any tips on where to start!! Also, does the weather differ much on the various parts of the island at that time of year? Any tips would be greatly received. I've never been to Maui before but am looking forward to the trip more than anything!

Well ... given that you are unfamiliar with the territory, I would choose a resort with a good reputation ...

Grand Wailea, Fairmount or 4 Seasons in South Maui Sheraton Maui or the Hyatt in West Maui

Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua.

October is warm and dry. Most acccomodations are on the dry sides of the island.

Please do some extensive homework about the island ... including the heat. You'll be leaving those kilts and socks at home! Are you bringing your family or wedding party?

I got married at the Grand Wailea wedding chapel at sunset in June 2003. Everything about our wedding day was perfect. We worked with the hotel wedding planner. We had 45 guests and everyone said our wedding was the best they had ever been to. If you have any specific questions, let me know.

I got married January of 2008.

Best advice that I can give you is to find a wedding planner on Maui. I can't image how hard it would be to try to plan everything from the mainland. Pick the wedding planner and then all you have to do is decide where you want to be married (beach, garden...), when, photography packages (the planner should have many packages to choose from) and then if you want anything else special.

Do a google search for Maui wedding planner. I used justmauied.com. They did a great job. There are many to choose from, top end very expensive and on down. Either way it will be money well spent. Even if you decide to do it yourself, reading through their websites will give you many ideas...

I was married in Maui in September 2006. It was wonderful and I wouldn't trade the experience for any other in the world. We were married in a sunset ceremony at Secret Cove on the south side of the island. We had a beautiful view of Molokini from the beach and the beach itself was picture perfect. I would HIGHLY recommend it! The weather was nice, even though our entire trip the island was experiencing high winds the beach was protected and not windy at all. I am sure October is just as nice there if not nicer. I went in October 2001 and the weather was postcard-perfect.

We used a wedding planner on Maui, Precious Maui Weddings, and I would highly recommend them. There were several other couples getting married on the same beach at the same time but our planner got there early and got us the best spot on the beach. The photographer was excellent and the photos look like it was just us getting married there all alone which was wonderful. The couples getting married were all very respectful of one another and it was relatively quiet.

If you are interested in getting married on a beach you should just remember that all beaches in Maui are public and there might be spectators who watch your ceremony. If this makes you uncomfortable you might want to consider another location. Most people are respectful and keep their distance but just be aware that there will probably be non-wedding guests watching. Good luck!

Aloha!

We got "remarried" to celebrate our 20th in March of 2008, and it was only $250, and the ceremony was simple but lovely! The ceremony was right on the beach and was performed by Pastor Rick.

I just got married June 2008 at The Plantation House in Kapalua. It was so beautiful. They have a special events person on staff to help you with basically everything. They can take care of the site, food and flowers. They have you work with Maui Wedding Cakes for your cake. You can look on their web site to see pictures. I think it has one of the most beautiful views in Maui. I used Pia Aluli as our wedding pastor and he was so wonderful! Our photographer was Stewart Pinsky- great pictures! Shelly Young did all of our hair. She was amazing! Just a few suggestions to help you. They can give recommendations for everything else you need. My wedding was perfect. I couldn't have ask for more.

We were married on Maui in December 2005. It was outstanding. You may wish to contact angel@mauigateway.com I found them to be very affordable and were excellent. We could not have asked for anything more. They will even do pictures. When you leave them you will think you have known them for ever.

We always contact them and go out to eat and visit everytime we go back. There are many to choose from and I know there are other good options but I feel we made the best choice and the prices were not to be beat. At least contact them and give them a shot, they do have a web-site as well.

Good luck and best wishes to you both.

I located the web-site. It is maui-angels.com

It is a husband and wife team. She performs the ceremony and he takes the pictures. They will be as simple or as elaborate you want to be.

Please respond here if you would once you talk to them. I would be interested in your response even if you choose someone. Keep us informed. You will see many repeat visits here.

There are a lot of us that can never get enough of Maui and I bet you will find you become that way as well.

It changes you forever.

I used JustMauied.com as well.. Even went back to them 2 years later to have pics taken again. Everything went so smooth and would do it all over again. We stayed at the Hyatt on Kaanapali beach that year..
