I remember someone on an old thread saying that they did see it. Never heard about it until that thread a month or so ago. I'll have to look next June and get back to you. ;)

We've never seen the green flash in our eight previous visits to Hawaii of 10-14 days each. We've stopped and watched every sunset we could. I understand that you'll never see it if there are any clouds on the horizon at all. We hope to see it one day. In the meantime we watch every sunset in awe.

Saw one on our first trip 15 years ago. We were told at the time how special it is but didn't realize then how rare it is to catch it. We've been watching for it again every year since and haven't seen a repeat performance. No complaints though. We almost never miss a sunset while we're there and have loads of photos and memories of some truly amazing sunsets.

Do you think that's a fable to keep us coming back ...?

Lougee, I read about it a number of years ago. I've always watch for it at sunset.

Alas, I have NEVER seen it. (But I have seen a pink flash!)

I know some folks are going to check my past posting history to figure out if I'm a shill for the Hawaii Tourism Bureau :-} but I saw one twice over the course of a few days while on the Kona coast last August. Knowing how rare it was to catch them, the first time I saw it I was excited. The second time I thought maybe I was starting to hallucinate!

Wonderful Perez. BTW, did you see the "flash" with sunglasses or without. (I've heard even that can make a difference.)

Twice you say huh? Now where's my lie detector machine (wink)?

Yes ,we have seen the green flash a few times over many visits.

The sun has to be setting into the ocean and the sky has to be cloud free at the horizon.Even with the perfect conditions it is a rare happening-then all you get is a fabulous sunset.
