We are thinking of staying at this resort? Anybody who has stayed there and would like to share their thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, if you could tell me what is within walking distance from this resort, i.e., restaurants, nightly entertainment.

Im taking you mean Napili shores. Napali is the coast line in kauai.

Im always in the vast minority when it comes to this place--I thought it was horrible. The rooms were like my dorms in college. For the life of me, I still cant figure out teh bed. its tucked under the head board and does roll out---i.e. your bed is about 2 feet shorter because its under that thing. The pictures on their website are what the rooms look like so there are no surprises. We left after about 10 minutes.

Keep in mind that I do have high standards for hotels so I may not be the best person to ask. 9.9 times out of 10, people rave about this place.

We stayed at Napili Shores a year ago March. We rented rooms through an agency who did warn us that some of the rooms were not updated and could be rather "worn.". We had a one-bedroom, ocean view and one bedroom garden view. Agency requested updated rooms but when we arrived, we found they were probably last furnished in 70's or early 80's, carpeting also. We did ask for updated rooms when we got there but were told there were none available. We loved the location and enjoyed our time there; however, if we rent there again, will probably go through owner and ask more questions. We paid enough money to expect better furnishings. On the positive side, this area is so beautiful and we spent so much time outside, we were able to overlook the condition of rooms and furniture and they were very clean. The ocean "front" rooms would be fantastic to rent. None were available when we planned our vacation. They have totally unobstructed, panoramic view of Molokai and whales!

We are staying in an ocean front studio May 4th thru May 9th. We rented thru VRBO so I think we know what to expect after asking a lot of questions. The Sea House restaurant is down the beach, within walking distance and gets good reviews. I also will post a review after our return on the 14th. We are also staying on Molokai for 4 nights.

I stayed in Napili Shores in 2004 and will be staying this summer for my honeymoon. I love the place, personally I could really careless how old the stuff in the room looked. Everything worked, nothing was broken. It really depends on what you are looking for in a room. If you are looking for luxury and to be pampered this isn't it. If you are looking for a nice little place right outside of the hustle of Lahaina, this is the place. I stayed in an oceanview studio, had a nice little kitchen with everything you need in it. The place was decent size and fit two people confortably. It is a two minute walk to Napili Bay. 5 minute drive to Honolua Bay, 5 minutes from Kaanapali, and 10 minutes from Lahaina, which is perfect, right out of the hustle of the cities but close enough to get there whenever you wanted. I also like the fact that it is only two levels, not a big fan of the big hotels. I think the smaller condos/ hotels keep a little bit of Hawaii in them. LIke I said, I highly recommend this place.

tough question. everyone has their opinions as to what is nice and what isn't.

I can tell you that my girlfriend didn't like it at all (I wasn't a fan either). Rooms are VERY outdated and for some reason the bed was shoved under the headboard. I tried to pull it out, but the mattress slid right off meaning it wasn't meant to move out. our unit had no a/c which is a deal breaker for us. we stayed 15 minutes and left to the hyatt.

This was back in 2005 so I'm not sure if the place got a facelift since then. the furniture on the website certainly looks different.

again, we're all different all have different opinions so take mine for what its worth.

Napili Shores is home to the much touted and reviewed Gazebo Restaurant which draws crowds of people daily for its breakfasts. But, IMHO the rest of the property has grown a bit tired. Here is the MR review on the place...

www.wizardpub.com/maui/mrnapilishores.html

On the other hand Napili is a spectacular beach and a great place to stay. Of the dozen or so trips we've made to Maui, most have been to Napili for its relaxing atmosphere. As previously posted, it is quiet and uncrowded yet minutes away from the activity and buzz of Ka'anapali and Lahaina. Kapalua Bay is next door and there are several excellent restaurants right there... Merrimans, Seahouse, and Pineapple Grill. Further up the road is Plantation House. Not much there for nightly entertainment though.

Frankly, for a few more $$ I'd say move to the other end of the bay and stay at Napili Kai. Check out their web site for 5th nite free options.
