Seeking advice from "Pappy" |
|
Well Pappy you seem to be somewhat of a celebrity on this forum; so I am assuming that you are pretty knowledgeable on Maui. I posted some questions a couple of days ago in regard to best area and resort to stay in when we go to Maui in Sept. (see Hotel Choice for September). This travel forum helped us tremendously when we went to Cancun and I for one "like the banter"; so I would like your opinion!! It's fun hearing the different opinions of all the people. Thank You! |

Well... since I have lot's of opinions and they are always right....I'd be glad to help!!!:) As has been said before, discussing the best area on Maui is like discussing religion or politics. Everyone has an opinion and, by God, it's right! When we found that Maui was the island that we prefered, we spent a couple of trips exploring the areas. Please keep in mind that the opinions expressed are ours and "are not necessarily those of the staff and management"! A lot depends on what your interests are. We do not like the big resorts, crowds and high rises so that left Kaanapali out right away. The Hana area is gorgeous but your accomodation options are somewhat limited and we prefer the leeward side of any island. We soon found that the area from Kahana up to Kapalua appealed to us. The Napili area in particular. If you ask my "why?" I would be hard pressed to explain, it just wrorks for us. We like the beaches, it seems to be a little slower paced, etc.
We are also hard pressed to explain why we don't care for Kihei area, we just don't. If I had to pick two areas it would be, as I have said, the area from Kahana up to Kapalua or the area around Wailea. When it comes down to it there are not really bad areas but to us, some are definitely better than others. We have returned to Napili for many years now and still find it very appealling.

Thanks Pappy - The Kapalua area was also recommended to us by some friends from Indiana that had stayed at the Ritz. We do really enjoy night life too, so that was why I was a little concerned that there may not be too much to do there; but I'm not too sure that is true. Will keep reading reviews from everyone-the insight really does help since we have never been there. Good to hear what people like and dislike about certain areas.

Pappy is correct that everyone has an opinion and they do not always match. I personally love the Kaanapali area. I really like the Whaler's Village to shop and hang out. I am 27 so I also love the nightlife of Lahaina. I think that Wailea is very nice but it is too upscale for my taste. Kapalua seems to be a little more quiet than Kaanapali but not as snooty as Wailea. It also seems that Kapalua attracts a little bit of an older crowd. I think that Maui is absolutely wonderful, and regardless of where you stay you should have a wonderful time. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

Uh Oh......it's more of those "night life" people. Have mercy on those like jeeper and me who need our beauty sleep. :)
