Hi all,

I am off on a self-drive round Namibia in 2 weeks. Having seen some good reviews of The Cardboard Box Travel Company I booked my accommodation and car hire through them. I would like to know other people's experiences of using them because I have to say I haven't found them as efficient as I was hoping. Lilly has been our contact and she does appear to be very pleasant and friendly but throughout the process I have had to keep phoning her to find out what's going on - it's almost impossible to get a reply to an email. I appreciate that there may sometimes be technical reasons for this.

We have had no confirmation or receipt for our credit card payment and I was also expecting some vouchers for the accommodation and car hire. When I phoned Lilly this morning she told me that we would receive all of this on arrival. I asked if we were due to pick the car up at the airport and she said that someone would meet us and drive us to the office in Windhoek. I wouldn't have known any of this if I hadn't chased it up on the phone again. It all makes for a bit of apprehension when we should be getting excited about our trip.

Any thoughts anyone?

I just returned from Namibia a few weeks ago, and tried to use them to book rooms and car. Unfortunately they were nice enough, but pretty unresponsive. I finally gave up and never heard another word from them!

We have had the same problem. Nice enough at first but then absolutely nothing in writing and no follow through. We gave up on them.

The Cardboard Box Company are great and no I do not work for them. We booked a drive tour for last christmas and it was fantastic. They sorted us out with everything we needed eg great lodges, car hire, airport transfer. Also you get met by one of their team as soon as you arrive in windhoek.

We got the vouchers upon arrival and it was fine. The internet is strange in namibia so the email does not seem to work however sending on a webmail account eg gmail sorted out our problems. Don't freak out they sort everything out for you. For any more on our itinerary check out my blog www.lacailleguidetotravel.blogspot.com

Hope this helps

I used CBox last trip for Car Hire which was absolutely seamless. I expressed surprise and was told it was meant to be easy and was.

This trip is booked and Deposit paid without problems.

They did go quiet on me and enquiry gleaned the info they had had a breakin. Bad enough but then the new Mail system had a habit of putting lots of messages in the Spam filter. All resolved so far, so good.

As to vouchers, you get these with your 'welcome pack' in town and no real cause for concern. Just pick up your Hire Car if a Meet and Greet has not been arranged.

I used Cardboard Box and it was fantastic- I would use them again in a heartbeat-great service and followed up on all the details while on our trip. Kristy met us at the airport as well.

Will be planning another trip with them.

Hi Scoutfinch

I guess you are already in namib as I write this.

I too found it hard to get update information out of Lilly at Cardboard Box and in fact all of my booking vouchers were sent to me with the wrong dates on. I made several phone calls to them and to be fair, Lilly did sort it out. But I could have done without that a few days before departure. Like you, it left me feeling apprehensive.

Nevertheless, when we got to Namib, everything worked out fine and went like clockwork. We had a superb time and saw some wonderful sights, both game and scenery

I took this problem up with Kirsty at CBB when posted and she has confirmed that Vouchers are handed over duiring the Meet and Greet and/or Hire car pick up.

As a further precaution, re-assurance, she has said she would also Email copies ahead of departure so that is comforting to know.

I think the problem is one of Computer/communications in Namibia.

Maybe Scoutfinch will tell us when he gets back.

For what it is worth I have had a flurry of two way contact with CBB this last two days over a Booking matter. All prompt and to the point. BUT two of my mails did go into SPAM at their end.

These guys must be pretty good as watching the end credits of a bbc program last night I saw that they (the bbc) used them whilst filming in Namibia.
