My husband and I are visiting Dakar with our nephew to meet his father who is living in the suburb of Thiaroye area of Dakar. He does not own a car.

We will stay in a hotel, but are told the drive from Dakar daily south would be very long and congested.

Does anyone know of lodgings closer to this neighbourhood, or would it be a good idea to rent a car and commute from Lac de Rose, or Rufisque or Yoff?

Thank you.

The drive in and out of Dakar is awful -- it really does take hours (1 1/2 to 2 hrs when the traffic is not too bad) to get from the center of Dakar to Pikine.

The Lac Rose area has some campements which range from pleasant to extremely luxurious. Yoff has some upscale areas, and I know there are hotel options there. I don't know about Rufisque. But in any case, I think you would save lots of time by staying outside of Dakar and going into Thiaroye from elsewhere.

Hi

I live in Ontario some of the year and spend the rest of my time in Senegal.

It can be very hot in August so I recommend you stay close to the ocean.

There are two hotels in Yoff that would be very suitable for you.

The hotel ocean in Yoff is 5 minutes from the airport.

the hotel Cap Oeust is also close to the airport.

Both are inexpensive and on the ocean.

They are also within a 5 dollar taxi ride of the city.

Lac Rose is quite far out as is Rufisque.

A friend of mine is an honest taxi driver who will pick you up from the airport if you require.

Dakar is a great city and you will enjoy it.

Any questions email me at eddie@caacademy.ca

Eddie
