Board a railway train at Taipei Railway Station to Rueifang Railway Station. Fare: NT$52 to NT$80 Travel time: About 40 to 55 mins (depending on type of train) At Rueifang, transfer to another railway train on the Pingsi branch line. Consider purchasing a NT$54 day pass at the train platform control booth for unlimited travel on Pingsi branch line.

You can release sky lanterns at any time (day and night) on any day in Shifen, Pingsi and Jing-tong. Stalls selling sky lanterns (NT$100 each) are open till around 2100~2130 hrs. Mass release of sky lanterns is held on Yuan Xiao Jie (15th day of Lunar New Year) You may wish to consider staying in a minsu there for the experience.

After I have drop off at Jingtong, how should I walk to the Sky Lantern area where I can put the lantern?

Sky lanterns can be released at any time of the year along the Pingsi branch line in the main townships of Shifen, Pingsi and Jingtong where there are stalls selling sky lanterns. The stallholder can assist you to fix the kerosene-soaked incense paper to the lantern before lighting up and releasing it into the sky in any open area near the stall.

The mass release of sky lanterns is a colorful activity on Yuan Xiao Jie (15th day of Lunar New Year) usually held at Shifen Scenic Area, about 15~20 mins walk from Shifen Station.
