Nok Air - Does anyone know what is happening? |
|
We are booked on a Nok Air flight in October from Chiang Mai to Bangkok & then onto Phuket. Nok Air sent me an email saying that because of aircraft maintenance they were canceling the Bangkok to Phuket flight. I have sent an email to them asking what our options are but to date have not heard back. When I check on the website there are no flights listed in October between Bangkok & Phuket. Does anyone know what is going on? I have heard that there may be issues related to fuel costs but this info was very vague. Any info greatly appreciated. Many thanks |

I put a post on this forum two days ago with a full update. Use the search facility to find it. They have suspended services for at least two months to reconsolidate (if they can.....)

Sorry - actuelly my update was about One Two Gone - I mean Go. But it looks likely Nok is doing the same thing.

Thanks Andy I did do a search before I posted but found nothing relevant regarding my query. Thanks for your info re the 1 2 GO airline.

From its website, it really does look like Nok Air has stopped its service to Phuket as of the beginning of August. Since this must have been one of its most lucrative routes, it's not a good sign. I know that the Thai Airways board was holding a meeting to consider the future of Nok Air in late June (it owns 39 percent). But I never found any results of that meeting. I fear we're seeing the end of a golden age of low-cost air travel in Thailand (and elsewhere). 1-2-Go has always been a shambles and long before last year's crash was considered a disaster-in-the-making. But Nok Air was always great to fly on, friendly and reliable (except for their horrible internet booking site). I will be sorry to see them go, if that indeed is what's happening.

Acc to a notice in the biz section of the BKK Post, Nok will stop operations for the time being. Can't remember when they stop.

"Nok will stop operations for the time being." Sorry, Jemima, but could you post a link for that? The latest I heard was Nok Air cut its routes to Krabi, Chiang Rai and Ubon Ratchathani but was not considering suspending any other operations. As of today, there have been no staff layoffs and flights continue to various destinations: Udon Thani, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Chiang Mai. So if you have updated news please share it, and source it.

FYI to those that are interested. Its taken a while, many emails & phone calls later but I have finally found out that Nok Air has suspended all their fights into & out of Phuket from August 08. They are not offering alternatives to people who have already booked & paid, they are just refunding their money (within 4 - 6 weeks!). They gave two reasons, the first was aircraft maintenance, the second was that they were closing their Phuket office. Hope this answers some questions for those that are interested.

Thats very interesting and not a good sign for Nok Air. They did not have Phuket on the list of destinations they said they would stop flying to. As a main route, it could be the death nell for Nok Air.

Less competition means other operators can increase their prices. Watch this space!
