Should we book a car in advance, through the hotel, or can we just get a taxi at the airport without being ripped off, ie a meter taxi. How far is it and how much is it likely to cost? Thanks

Meter taxis are generally safe and reliable at the airport. On the arrival concourse you’ll see a “Public Taxi” desk. Taxis vary from some older vehicles to very new ones, and some van-type taxis ideal for 3-4 people with lots of bags. All taxis run on natural gas and most of the boot (trunk) is taken up with the NG tank.

Tell the supervisor your destination. He will give you a slip of white paper. Hold onto it, do not give it to the driver, as it has instructions on what to do in the unlikely event of any problem.

When you get into the taxi, make sure the meter is on and showing 35 baht. On arrival at your hotel, you’ll have to pay the fare on the meter, plus an airport surcharge of 50 baht that is not shown on the meter. In addition there are expressway tolls of 65 baht for most city center destinations.

The overall fare is likely to be around 300-400 baht, maybe a little more during rush hour. Travel time about an hour or less.

The Bel-Aire Princess also has directions written in Thai on their website for you to print out & give to your taxi driver at the airport.

We leave tomorrow & have printed this out & giving it to the driver from the public taxi stand at the arrivals concourse.

Dear Jolondon,

Warm welcome to Thailand,

Not really pre booking for transfer taxi; of course you can get airport taxi but one thing is you have to be patient for waiting.. but in the mean time if you well prepare for arranging you can get someone take good care of you!! cost of transfer is about 20 pounds... Let's think about it!!!

Have a good time in Bangkok:

I have organised a private trasfer to the Bel Aire Princess next week with the most popular Tour provider on this site for $21aus. A bit more that a cab but after a long flight the last thing I want to do is 'bargin' and insist on meters etc. That's only just above 10 pounds.
