I was thinking of taking my family to PNG for a holiday. We have 3 girls under 5 years old. They love swimming at the beach and looking for fish etc. so I thought Tufi resort might be a great adventure for us. Are we mad to take small kids to PNG ? We do not intend to stay in POM unless forced to for flight connections. Any suggestions on other places we should stay or visit would be great.

Hi,

I know this reply might be a bit to late. But I wanted to at least enlighten you with my experience with another family that I met at Tufi.

Ok, so POM can be a little dangerous but not unlike other places in the world. The Gateway and the Airport Hotel have transfers direct from the Airport to there respective hotels. Both hotels have good securiy and amnenities that would be appropriate for young familes. I would consdir staying there with children your age no probelms at all. When you leave these hotels its normally directly to the airport to catch your internal flights and again you travel with the hotels mini bus and staff.

While at Tufi I met this couple who had 4 children with them under 4 years old (they had Twins) Tufi provides support for families like child care at a very cheap price. You can dive with your significant other and for less than it will cost to feed your family you can have a local lady look after them for you until you come back.

A couple of the children accompanied me to a outter reef and while their parents where diving they were entertained by the dive staff (x2) that were on the boat. During their surface interval the parents and a dive master got the children in the water and took them snorkeling around the shallow reefs.

while back at Tufi resort the shallow reefs in the fiord made for good snorkeling for the kids. they got to see a lot of really cool stuff like anemone fish and sea horses etc.

They absolutely loved their stay there and told me that they would come back to Tufi again as they work and live in the PNG area.

If you would like to know more info please contact me. If you would like me to introduce you to the family that went there via email I wold be more than happy to contact them and ask them to contact you to tell you first hand their experience.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Terry
