There are 2 Comfort Hotel locations near the Peace Park in Hiroshima--small rooms with free breakfast. Good rates on the www.choicehotels.com website.

The Comfort Inns will give you a discount if you're old enough too. Still not as cheap as Toyoko Inns - we've used them a lot and really like to use them as they are well located in cities.

We will be going around Kyushu and Shikoku then Miyajima in October. I can tell you it's quite expensive and hard to get a place to stay in Miyajima so get onto it now.Visited last year and it's not to be missed.

Miyajima is a short trip from Hiroshima, so you could stay in Hiroshima on the day you visit Miyajima.

If you book far in advance and take the "internet user's discount" or "over 55 discount," the Comfort Hotels can be cheaper than Toyoko Inns. But only a limited number of rooms are available at a discount.

Just checked the choicehotels.com website; they no longer offer an "internet user" discount, but there is an over-50 discount.

If you are using a JR pass, be sure to check on their web site for the JR hotel rates. The Rihga Royal hotel in Miyajima is very cheap with the JR rate.

The Comfort Hotel Hiroshima Otemachi is the newer one. It's situated very close to the older one. We found it great, and really good value.(see my review).I think it's Rihga Royal Hotel Hiroshima, not Miyajima.

I am so sorry!!! A major typo.....the Righa Royal is in Hiroshima, NOT Miyajima. I have stayed there many times and the JR hotel rate is about $100 USD and includes a large buffet breakfast.

On Miyajima I stay in the Iwaso Ryokan, which is very expensive but an amazing experience.
