I am looking for the best place to park ourselves and just walk for the time we are there. I've read about "Uptown" and the "older" part of town and would appreciate a breakdown on the difference. Many thanks.

Not sure what is meant by "older" part of town, but the "Uptown" area would be the place for you. Hotels in this area include L'Auberge, Best Western Arroyo Roble, and Matterhorn (in different price ranges). Check out the reviews on this forum. Plenty of shops and restaurants in Uptown, plus there is a free shuttle from Uptown to a few other shopping/restaurant areas (Tlaquepaque, Hozho, Hillside), so you will have even more options.
