san diego with kids |

We have booked our flight and are going to be in San Diego from 15ht- 20th August with 2 kids (age 18mnths and 3) We are debating whether to stay at Grande Colonial in La Jolla or Glorietta Bay Inn in Coronado, any advice on which to choose. Also Expedia has a really good rate on Loews Coranado but we like to be near to restaurants, shops etc for evening. Any advice on the location We plan to do the Zoo, can anyone tell me with kids my age if it is worth doing the wildlife park as I believe we can't do the caravan tour as they are too young? We plan to go to Legoland maybe seaworld , walk around La Jolla, Coronado, Gaslamp area. Balboa park Am I missing anything, beaches aren't really a must for us as we live on Miami Beach but if there is a beach area that would be good to look around/eat etc?? Any good family restarants? Also the San Diego Go Card, is there a catch to it? Also we will be coming from Palm Springs, is there anywhere you recommend visiting on the drive from their to San Diego Thanks so much

Both La Jolla and Coronado are gorgeous areas of San Diego. There is the Crab Catcher which is family-friendly in La Jolla for some great clam chowder and seafood, it is on Prospect St., just a short walk from the La Jolla cove beach. There is a nice, large grassy area there and walking paths that run along the ocean at the cove. In Coronado Miguel's Cocina, a Mexican restaurant is casual and family-friendly. There is a nice outdoor patio area there, the food is great and the ambiance fun and festive at Miguel's. We stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado and loved the entire area here. Beautiful beach and pretty scenery. Enjoy your time in San Diego! :)

The SanDiego go Card is fine IF you use several of the activities on it.There is no catch I'd stick with the activities you mentioned and skip the Wild Animal Park as it will be VERY hot and you'll see enough animals at the zoo. Next to the zoo in Balboa Park is a nice carousel and train ride the kids may like. The drive from Palm Springs is about 2hrs. You pass Temecula on the way which has wineries but don't know if you'd stop with the younguns. The Glorietta Bay Inn has family suites with bkfst included and is across the street from a lovely beach. I don't know if the rooms at the Grand Colonial are as family friendly but the location is lovely near La Jolla Cove which will be VERY different from Miami Beach. It is more like the coast of Maine or northern California with small rock enclosed(cove ) beaches where you can see seals, pelicans, right at the beach. I tmight be a nice change for you if the room is OK. There are tons of restaurants where you'd be comfortable with your family so you won't have any trouble. Let us know where you end up. Oh about the Loews,it is about an 8min.drive into the area where the Gloriett Bay Inn is located and where you'll find restaurants etc. It is the most"resorty" of the hotels you have mentioned.

Thanks so much, I have just booked the Glorietta Bay Inn , we were able to get a suite for most of our stay. I think it is a good choice for us.
