“Had a great stay at Tauraa”

Tauraa Hotel

We had a great stay at Tuaraa.

Edith & Bill were extremely helpful - telling us where to find a beach with shade, helping us to hire a quad bike from 10am for 24hours which meant we could see the island's best sunset before dinner and the best sunrise and get back for breakfast etc.

Their excellent tours specialise in small groups - essential for us. One day we had 4 people and the next day just the two of us. They also advised us not to include a picnic in the tour, which would be pricey, but to buy fresh from the beach kiosks. We had a tuna sandwhich where the tuna steak was cooked before our eyes and served with avacado and salad - delicious and cheap. In this way we avoided most of the other tours and had the 15 moai and Anakena beach all to ourselves for a while.

This isn't really a hotel - more a B&B. Our room was large and clean with a small sea view. Only one creepy crawly for the whole stay - a dying cockroach - but our room was in the midst of a lush garden so not surprising. Air con would have been nice especialy as it was very noisy at night with roosters and dogs.

All accommodation on the island is pretty pricey for what you get but we would certainly recommend Tauraa.

This is a small b/b with about 8rooms. All very clean and hot water. Central. Edit and Bill and their extended family a perfect combination. All ooze friendliness. Breakfasts are great. They also have their own tours. Suggest the quarry tour first day and then the other . Make sure that Bill is taking the other as his imput is a little different as he was part of the film crew of the HOLYWOOD picture 'RapaNui' 16 years ago. There is a restaurant by the fishing boat harbour run by a french man, ask Bill, the food is good but the frenchman can and often does throw a wobble and kicks clients out. This in its self is worth seeing. There is a small supermarket just down the road on right offering cheaper prices but shuts at 1.30 and reopens at 5.30 if I remember right . One day on this island is not enough. My stay was 5days with great weather. Loved it. Thanks Edit and Bill and family for your superb hospitality,David.NZ

We only had one night at the Taura hotel, but Edith the owner helped us pack in so much into the two half days we had on either side of it in Easter Island. She was incredibly helpful and efficient, getting a rental car sorted for us and getting us on our way quickly. The hotel itself was lovely too. Simple, clean and friendly.

“A Perfect Fit for a Visit to Easter Island”

Tauraa Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Chicago, IL

Having read the previous reviews, I certainly agree with their comments on the friendly atmosphere that Bill and Edith have created at Hotel Taura'a. The small hotel is family run with most of the staff somehow related to one another.

I would also acknowledge their negative comments; however, if you are going to Easter Island to experience not only the moai statues but the unique culture that developed in this islolated corner of the world, you should be ready to accept the simpler life and slower pace that takes place here. it is truly part of the enjoyment.

The hotel's rooms are simple and very clean. While there is no air conditioning, the ceiling fans more than kept us cool at night (There is no reason to lounge around the room during the day.). The breakfast service may be slow, but the homemade breakfast was great and probably better than what most guests get at home or at a typical "resort" hotel for that matter.

The hotel's location is convenient--a short walk to the restaurants and even the small Pea Beach. There is a small market across the street where you can stock up on beer or water, and the room has a refrigerator to keep them cold.

We took both the South and West Tours with Terry as our guide. He was great and provided a personal, local slant on the unique history of the island. They say that the tour will be limited to 8 or fewer people. We had 5 one day and 6 the next.

Booking hotels in remote locations like Easter Island can be a challenge since most of the places are quite small and not registered on the big internet sites. We booked ours directly with Hotel Taura'a via their website. They were very prompt in getting back to us, and it could not have gone more smoothly.

Our only regret is that Easter Island is so far away from Chicago. We wish we could go back again soon.

“enjoyed our stay at the hotel tauraa”

Tauraa Hotel

We recently stayed at the Hotel Tauraa for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. As other reviewers have mentioned...Bill and Edith make the place. I would have been less enthused if they had not been there. They are fun and helpful and enthusiastic...but they do not interfere. Breakfast was different every morning...fresh fruit and a main course. Edith prides herself on her cooking...as well she should. If you have any food dislkies or allergies you should let them know upfront...because you will be served what she is preparing and breakfast time is too late to ask for a change. The coffee service was a little slow...but I am picky about that and want it pretty much when I sit down.

The rooms do not have air conditioning...when we checked in i was concerned...however it cools off at night and with a ceiling fan it was not a problem for us. However if you like an icy cold room this is not the place for you.

The rooms were simple and modest but served the purpose.

We took tours with Terry, a Rapa Nui guide who works for Bill. We were a little disapointed that Bill did not do the tours as we had read so much about him. Terry, however, was a good guide who spoke excellent english.

I would recommend this hotel.
