This short trail on an elevated walkway over the Everglades is not to be missed! The area is full of wildlife including, alligators (tons), Anhingas, herons, turtles, fish, snakes and though we didn't see any, the elusive marsh rabbit. It is less than a mile long and full of great picture opportunities. Cost is cheap, especially if you have a carload as you pay $10 per vehicle to get into the park. This pass can also be used at other entrances to the Everglades National Park.

We went mid August, and this is a great trail for those who want to do a quick stop of the Everglades (its not too far from the entrance) and takes about 40 minutes.

Be sure to look carefully, as it can be easy to miss things! We saw a couple of large crocs - quite scary! We also say some birds that were nice. The trail is nicely set up, with wooden walkways winding in and our of the glades.

It can get VERY hot, esp during summer, so bring water.

Also suggets bringing some binoculars, they came in handy.

Even though mid-summer is supposedly "off-season" for seeing alligators and other wildlife in the Everglades, we were pleasantly surprised, seeing three large 'gators, many fish and numerous birds, including Anhingas. All this at mid-day too. We thought due to the intense heat and sunlight we might not see much but one large alligator crossed the path in front of us while two others were relaxing in the shade of the mangroves below the elevated boardwalk. Just walk slowly and look carefully. You might be surprised at what you see!
Great short side-trip!

We had only a few hours to spare for Everglades and asked a ranger where we'd be likely to see wildlife. He recommended this trail, and boy was he right! We saw dozens of alligators, an incredible variety of wading birds, turtles, and even a snake. Definitely worth a sidetrip.
